probs your temp sensor bringing on the light and causing poor starting, they cost around £20 and are easy to fit

oh this is interesting - I had a similar thing today, would turn over fine and the engine would seem to be starting then cut out. Check engine light came on and the glow plug light was on too. Tried 3 times and it did the same. 4th try I added some more throttle and it kept going - not sure if that was coincidence or not. I did notice the temp gauge going up and down (with the ignition on/off/on) very coarsly in little jumps - I have never looked that closely before but sure I would have noticed it not being a smooth.

Hopefully will get it in to the dealers later on today so they can at least see what fault codes have been logged - they dont charge just for that do they??

chuffing shouldnt do, but depends on the dealer. if they are nice or not

well it turns out they dont have the time to even look at it today which is effing useless :( I'll have to try and find my vagcom and see if the laptop I have it registered with still works, its all getting dusty in a box somewhere!

Maybe your problem is your temperature sensor that brings you problem on starting. Kindly buy a new one that not consumes a big amount of money.
