Warm Start Up Problems

I'm wondering if any of you guys could help me on this one ?
I spoke to a guy earlier with a year 2k 110 TDi.
It's totally standard and starts first time everytime when cold, but when starting when already at running temp it sometimes takes 3 or 4 attempts. Each attempt is at least 5 seconds of turning over.
I just wondered whether anyone on here had heard of a problem like this before ?

Had this problem in my 98 110 tdi. Have to ask my mechanic (aka local seat dealer) but I think the problem had to do with the incorrect functioning of the diesel pump. Dunno I'll ask.

Sorry but I've been a bit busy at work!

Update:
There a engine temperature sensor that feeds engine temp to the ECU, for correct fueling. This is the most likely cause of the problem.

The fuel pump incident only really happens at high mileage and on cars that do mostly/all highway (my case).

The car I was talking about in the original post had a faulty relay that wasn't working correctly only when it was warm. I can't for the life of me remember which relay it was now though !
Scan your car and see if it shows, it probably wont though I'll bet.
Post up the exact problem and circumstances in which it happens that you are having and somebody may be able to help out.

bumping the post along , i have same faults , no codes ,

i have changed the fuel temp sensor , Hot stating is an issue , and lumpy onn reving gradually

a big grey /blue smoke clouds on first start up of the day

Update:

Just to let you know i had the same problem a few months ago and changing the engine temp sensor that PRC is talking about solved the problem.

It should be located on the passenger side if the block inside what i think is the thermostat housing (black plastic cylindrical cover with wires leading to it).

You mean the Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS). Your description of the location is correct, but that isn't the thermostat housing, it is a pipe junction attached to the cylinder head (which would be an unusual location for the thermostat).

The thermostat housing is on the front of the block, where the radiator bottom hose joins the block.
