Good morning to all.
Could do with a quick answer to this if possible. Do all Cupra 160 TDi's come with ESP. The button to turn it off is near the hand brake. Reason for asking is I put my foot down in the car this morning and the car felt like the ESP was turned off. I pressed the ESP button and there was no light indication on the instument panel. I dont think the ESP is working. The car then went in to Limp mode. Stopped the car restarted limp mode had cleared. I had no lights on the dash indicating I had any problems. Have I bought a lemon. Does any no any information on my car . Reg is 05 KTE

Yeah all cupras come with ESP, don't just flick the button you have to PUSH it for the light to come on the dashboard. Sure it went into limp mode? Could have been the traction control kicking in (lots of juddering cause the TCS is cutting all the power to the wheels.) While thats on you can push the accelerator all day and it does f' all.

If you can go to the car now or later, (will check back), key to ignition and push the ESP button at the handbrake and your dials should have....... just uploading a picture for you to verify....

9 o'clock - is the engine management light - always on when key is set to one before turn over.
10 o'clock - ESP light should turn on/off when pushing ESP button.
1 o'clock - Handbrake light - had handbrake on.

No. I was traveling about 40mph and i put my foot down

Did you skid along the road (no grip) or judder along the road? When you floored it. Could just be a blow light on the dash or fuse has gone for esp if there is one (could be on the fuses near the battery). Need to check the manual but thats 32 miles away form work.

The car juddered all over the road it was almost impossible to control The
ABS light was flashing as expected. Then the car lost power. drove it slow for a while everything settled then tried to put my foot down again no power. Pressed the ESP button to see if would turn off. Nothing happened. Stopped the car, restarted. everything fine. Still no ESP light. Checked fuse found to be ok. Spark here in work checked the switch and that's ok. I think the car has a mind of it's own.

Juddering is the traction control kicking in ABS light flash which is at 10 oclock is the traction light telling you no grip, then you can push all you want on the accelerator and it does f'all (no power) I've got it to 4k rpm then when the car does get grip there is a whole mighty surge of power and OMG. Anything else about the car is it lowered or have you had it on the motorway and there is lots of vibration in the steering wheel?

Did you have one hand on the steering wheel or two? You do need some grip to the steering wheel. Bet the road was damp.

You'll know when the car is in limp mode, you just don't boost at all, like driving a NA engine.

The ESP controls 3 systems BTW.... ABS, TCS and ESP

when you say ABS light, are you refering to the ESP light or something else?im not aware of the ABS light ever flashing when traction control or ESP is kicking in.
certainly not in a leon LC or LCR?
