I've also been arguing this point since I got the LCR

My 'system' comprises of a Becker Mexico Pro HU and the stock speakers and it sounds great... better in fact than my Celica did with various decent HU's and Rockford Fosgate components with a nice dose of sound deadening!

I still see no point in changing the ICE at all :D

Better than Rockfords?! Hmm, just because you're usually right - I call your bluff this time :p Were these genuine, or the slightly lesser-known "Forkrod Rostgates" ?

I find the standard system pretty good tbh, certainly a lot better than a lot of standard fit audio systems.

The only thing it lacks is a bit of bass when you crank the fader the the rear more than about +2 rearwards.

But i've set my treble to full, and bass to about +3-4 and listening to some heavy rock on cd it sounds pretty decent...

Perhaps with a smallish sub in the boot would cure this lack of bass responce from the rear, but overall the stock setero is ok, IMHO.

No word of a lie. Rockford Fosgate don't make the best speakers to be fair, they are good at subs and electronics but that's about it. But they weren't bad at all :)

Oh... and Blaupunkt make some very good kit. It's only the Vauxhall standard fit crap that ruined their reputation really.

I have been considering this, and was looking at a decent 2nd hand unit off Ebay, but when I asked about changing it, people said it would not fit the standard CD changer, so I went off the idea.......

Get yourself an MP3 playing headunit then, problem solved! 6 albums on one CD, lovely ;)

lol

slightly more expensive then what I had in mind

considering ditching the CD changer as well

thing is though, if you do ditch the standard head unit, and install an after market one, does the display underneath the speedo still display the track and volume etc?

If anyone wants to buy some 'hi-fi' phillips mids and tweeters for their Leon to 'upgrade' their expensive aftermarket compnents, they can buy 2 sets off me - if it makes you feel better, i'll mark the price up to £200 for both pairs just to really give them that quality feel :D

I concur, since I got a Becker Grand Prix the stock speakers have performed admirably. No need to upgrade further imho for everyday use...

There is no point. The amount you'll pay for a second have BOSE setup, and the time you'll spend on getting it to fit, may as well have been put towards a decent Becker setup or something similar which offers fantastic SQ and stock looks.

Because I really don't think they are now, they just need a better signal...

Only recently have I realised how good my "system" sounds now, and the "system" comprises nothing more than a new HU

Those standard midbass's can produce plenty of bass too, almost like there's a sub in there :D

oh yeah ... when I first got my 9855R it did sound great ... take out the lowest of the bass with a HPF or crossover and it gets even better...

Well I am in the process of buying a 2nd hand HU from ebay at the moment, so I look forward to the difference in the sound it produces (Alpine HU hopefully)

what does the stock stereo put out, is it 4x20w? I know it was in the Ibiza with the standard HU....I think
