hi jonnyash

Overlooking the problems you've had :p, I suppose the question I'd like to know the answer to is: would you recommend this remap?

While the figures would be useful, its the driving experience that I'm really interested in. Does it feel that much better than standard?

Really hope its all going to work out for you now- I've followed all your posts with interest and for what its worth; sympathy!

just been and looked at the tunit option! and thats as far as i would go 195bhp + 280ftlb you must be joking for that price, standard is car doing around 182bhp +263ftlb so if you thinnk 13bhp + 17ftlb is worth it then you must have money to waste

I think this system is for the 140tdi too so perhaps the power range quoted is for both models - i.e it's the 140 that would achieve 182bhp?

I contacted Tunit and suggested that the improved performance figures they quote were fairly limited compared to the stock figures. This is part of the response I got:

"On our Dyno, using our 170BHP Leon, we have seen average power of 204BHP and 300lbs/ft. This has varied, but these were the minimum figures we
have seen, going up to 210BHP and 310lbs/ft.

All the figures we quote on the website are for the manufacturers quoted
figures. Our Tunit is fully adjustable because every engine has different power outputs."

I guess this would bring the Tunit figures into line(ish) with the maps that are currently around.

Hey Banzibarn, check out the FAQ section on the Tunit website- it sounds very easy to remove. In fact it sounds perfect and just what I'm looking for- hence my earlier question: what's the catch? :D

the guy at inters showed me it fitted to his leon its just plugged into the ecu adaptor, you would need to remove the engine cover, unplug the existing adaptor plug and fix two wires to the +/- on the car battery,It also has 9 points you can dial it up to, he advises to stick with what it comes with but you can play about till you get one that suits the car if you wish, 9 is a no-no def limp mode.I think fitting is free?

it was only an independant dyno to see for myself what its doing. for some reason it was a bit high at 216.3bhp & 481.1nm of torque. i have spoken to superchips and going there again on friday to try and sort it or have it taken off

been to the dyno and the results are quite unexpected ! everything is fine untill 3500 revs then starts to yoyo its way to 4200

You must have the steep torque curve that was offered to me, but I declined because the engine will go into "derated mode" at sustained 100+ - until internal temps have been reduced hence your "yoyo" effect.
Mines been OK - ....................... so far 500 miles since mapping. My only query with SS is that the web site quotes two ratings one at 197bhp and 213bhp so a bit misleading.
A uprated charge cooler may cure the engine internal temperature, but this is NOT confirmed yet.

the 213bhp was the one they issused last year and had to withdraw it bcus of problems the map i have should just be the new one at 201bhp which is why they are a bit confused why its doing 216bhp even though its not running right!

The profile I have installed is 197bhp, if this a nominal figure I have yet to est but my G Tex Pro is indicating 170-3bhp at the wheels - if I can find a dry spot of road this may be improved on!

Does anyone know how current mappers of the VAG 170TDI engines manage to copy the contents of the ECU prior to remap?

I've been told that one of the stumbling blocks with mapping this engine is that there are currently no protocols for taking a copy of the contents of the ecu through the OBD port.

The only process to do this is by a direct connection onto the ecu. While this can be done you need to drill off the tamper proof bolts to open the ecu case which will leave distinct entry marks resulting in an invalidated warranty if this is checked.

Bear in mind that I'm not offering this as gospel- this is what I've been told and now I'm looking for your comments! :)
