Here is a quick one, i drive a leon 20v Turbo Cupra and have just started running up some ideas for modifying it.
I went to a seat dealership the other day and saw several other cars of the same model as mine, however they all looked like the cupra R (bodykit wise). Are there different models of the 20v turbo cupra and do you recon if i changed the bodykit to look the same as those in the garage, i could get away without telling the insurance as im assuming, those in the garage are standard. :help:

did you read the previous post about insurance!?
The kits you see will prob be the facelift cupras, softer lined bigger bumpers and five spoke wheels?
Cupra R has even bigger bumpers, oval exhaust and 18's!

yeah i read the other thread, but i was unsure as to how there could be 2 different models of the same car and i reconed i could get away with doing mine up to look like those other ones i saw.

Looking at your Avatar... You have the pre facelift Cupra. The post facelift cupra was more colour coded and had smoother lines.

BCMs above is an R - I was going to pretty much say what he did - Cupra R looks a bit more agressive in my opinion.

I reckon you could get away with the facelift Cupra Bumpers without a problem.

(shakes head) when will people learn? if you change your car from factory spec. (even if making it look like a facelift model) your insurance company can and almost certainly will invalidate your insurance should you need to make a claim. its as simple as that! you will be left with a big bill and massive insurance premiums in the future, its just not worth the risk!

cough*take the risk*cough

if you crash just make sure it front end and the bumper is out the game!

thats all very well but what if you crash in to a 50k merc and total it? do you have 50k spare to pay for it? or would you prefer a spell in prison because thats probably what you would end up with.

i dont think it works like that mate.. with th emajority of insurance companies.. if u modify your car and dont notify them, if for example you have fully comp. they will only cover u 3rd party. so they will still foot the bill for the other car but leave your car as it is.

On the insurance situation,i had an ibiza once(only just remembered!!)with a pipercross i kit on it and when that ended up getting wrote off by a "were the safest drivers" woman. they made me pay £140 before they would proceed.
im guessing that was the diffence the premium would be if id told them.although cant see it having a bearing on any reason to a claim!

im sure everyone declares theyre remaps.............:p

hmmm, i have to see how much it would cost to tell them about it. Im sorry punch it ! i am proud of my car, but im sure we are all proud of our cars when we get them, so why do we then change bits and pieces on the car to make them look better. Its those little bits and pieces that make it 110% better:funk::funk:

I'm kind of, of the opinion, that if you want a car that looks like a Cupra R, why not just buy the Cupra R, ok so their a bit more expensive than the 20VT, which is why i also got a 20VT pre-facelift (also more money for bikes :funk:)

And Tbh, i was thinking along the same lines as you, but the costs involved in getting all the LCR bumper bits getting them painted & fitted is IMO, prohibative unless you earn shed loads of money, and have nothing better to do with it (lucky thing, if so)

So why not just get plastic bits colour coded, and fit an "R" lower splitter, which is what i'm going to be doing, perhaps even just fit the lower splitter, which will give the car a lower & different look than the stock pre-facelift LC, which does look a bit ordinary at least ppl think so.

If it ever stops raining :( I'll stick it on, and post some pics, if you like. :D

Greenlight insurance are very mod friendly. As long as you let them know the mods you've made they don't charge anything extra. I recently asked about an APR remap (taking it to about 255BHP) and it would be a one off £25 admin fee and nothing extra on the insurance premium.

Going with someone like this has gotta be better than taking any risks with your pride and joy.

No they dont.

I actually work in Fraud Investigation for one of the countries biggest insurance companies.

What will actually happen is that the file will be transferred to underwriters. If they decide it can effect the the premium that should have been paid (and it will) they will then give us the choice of either throwing the claim out and voiding the policy, or accepting the increase in premium and paying out.

Either way it IS insurance Fraud.

DO NOT be misguided by idiots on here recomending you commit fraud. If you end up having insurance voided you can forget ever getting cheap or medium priced insurance for the rest of your life.
