Best to import from the states. Get on detailing world and find a moderator. They have links in their sigs that get a discount code, not sure how much as it changes but usually about 15 - 20%. Still cheaper to import and still the best machine out there. You will need a transformer, extension and plug from Screw Fix.

The UDM is rubbish IMO. Reason it is so cheap is because it is a chinese copy of the pc. It shakes violently and it is worth paying the extra to get a pc. Meguiars originally had the UDM developed but were so disappointed in the pre launch trials they pulled out and Autopia took over. If Megs were unimpressed then that must say something, If you are not in a rush there are two other pc based polishers coming out later this year, one of which is being developed by one of the worlds biggest electrical household tool manufacturers but I am saying no more. Other than that is the one I would wait for it is going to get the Porter Cable manufacturers something to worry about let alone the UDM.

Daffy, I think your scathing remarks about the UDM are somewhat unfounded, its already been mentioned that the demo one C&S did suffer from a lot of vibrations, however the one I have tried had next to none compared to the PC, also others I have spoken to that have tried the non C&S version also commented on very low levels of vibrations. So I would conclude that there is a possibility that the one your tried may have had a fault, or maybe the other one was just a good one.

Personally I think commenting on testing just one is a little one sided, but until more are in use its going to be hard to give a solid founded findings.

However saying this I still think a 110v polisher is a million times better than a 240v one, if nothing else other than if it starts raining while working 110v is a lot less lightly to kill you, hence 110v used on building sites etc.

If the one we tested was faulty and I am not so sure it was not exactly the best advertising for a product in sending out a faulty one to test, especially after all the prototypes failed as well.
Whats also bad is the fact that this machine when marketed was hyped as the best thing since sliced bread polisher equall almost to a rotary and far superior to the pc. Its not even close to have the correcting power of a rotary and personally i think its no better than the already ok PC.It originally said that the vibrations were reduced and i think its only because of the Honest reviews on DW that the statement has now been withdrawn and the machine is being relooked into with a delayed launch date ....... Lets hope that a new design comes out then holds to the truth of the marketing. Quote DW 2/6/07
As said it was my opinion and for an extra few quid you can be import a pc or even by it on e-bay. Only thing you will lack is a 3 pin plug and a warranty, which in the case of the UDM I think you may need. I hope it proves me wrong but I have some reservations.
Having spoken to others and read DW the views seem split I would say
As I also said I would wait and see the two too be released soon. One in particular sounds interesting especially with the backing behind it.

If your after a pc or udm get 1 from www.autopia-carcare.com if you use the word SONUS as a discount code you should also get 15% off. If you do, state that you want low shipping values so you won't get caught by the import duties thats what i did and i've placed a few orders with them.

I thought the UDM was a cracking piece of kit, especially when you consider it will be £99.95 in the UK complete with backing plate, pad and carry case.

Here was my first impressions of it....

trying to correct with the aid of wet sanding some rather nasty dealer (Audi Huddersfield) induced scratching.

These were caused when they washed it 'free of charge' after a service. I thought it was particularly nice for them to put that in the receipt also

Anyway, here was the damage at the time:

I'd had a quick blast on them a while ago but didn't get very far...

I didn't have as much time as I liked so the aim of the game was to polish just that side of the car and see if I could tackle the more severe marks.

So I masked up, then using Meguiars Wet & Dry 2500 grit sandpaper which had been left to soak for 30mins in a #00 wash mix, I gently worked the worst part of the scratching.

I regularly checked paint depth and in total only removed about 5 microns at the most. Doing that by PC or even rotary would have taken a lot longer thats for sure.

Then out with the UDM using a 5" Menzerna Polishing Pad and Intensive Polish PO85RD3.02 after one hit left the following results.

I then smothered the whole car with Victoria lite cleanse by hand followed with Victoria Concours.

Hi,

We have bought a porter cable and it seems to work okay by removing swirls etc. You do need the correct pads and abrasives/polish. We use poorboys abrasives.

is that including delivery ?

nope just for the PC itself, delivery wasnt too much we spent about $700 and it was about $50 delivery and it only took 2days to get here :)

If you get it its well worth getting lots of other stuff as with the current exchange rate it works out half price and they pack it as a present too :)
