overheated but dont think its the fan

Well the auto electrician couldnt come see the car last night as he got stuck in a job till late (dont have mates who are auto electricians cos your the first person they drop off their list lol), but i took the car out to try and find a bit more out on the problem. Right the results, when i drive the car around local streets (not exceding 45ish mph) and when the car is parked up running etc, its fine and the temp gauge doesnt move, as soon as i went onto the motorway and gave it some beans the gauge starts the climb, but if i then ease off the throttle the temp drops again and i was able to sit outside my house with the engine running (just after the temp gauge had started to go up) and it was fine. Does this mean that if its the water pump propeller then it isnt able to pump enough water aroung the car when the revs increase? Also does anyone know where i can get a metal blade pump from? (opinions pretty please

That sounds like it could be a water pump propeller, but you wont know until you've done it. When your car is idling the temperature will fall back down to normal running temps, so the water pump wont be needed so much. But as soon as you get onto the motorway or put the car under any added stress, it can't cool it quickly enough so the temp rises.
It's worth changing the propeller regardless really, but requires the cambelt to be taken off so you may as well change it all in one go... cambelt, brass propeller and tensioner (if poss).

The brass impeller pump is for the Audi TT
cheers, but can i just order the blade or have i got to get the complete unit. Also does it have to be off a 180bhp tt? How much we talking here folks? (only the pump now), got the cambelt and tensioner and fitting is free
right had it on ebay from murray's for £32 delivered . Was expecting it to be more than that. Hopefully get it fitted on the weekend and fingers crossed it will sort the problem. Only the fan mod to do then cos not worth waiting until the resistors in my fans burn out and the temp starts creeping up again. Big Fella i aint forgot about you lol, il sort out getting a couple of those plates made and let u know

Ok cheers mate, let us know what effect the new pump has. I'm going to make some enquires about a fan controller later on.
you may want to consider doing the timing belt and tensioner also seeing the belt comes off to change the water pump.

DITTO. Got to be done from 60k on anyway, so may as well get it done now while the parts are coming off so you can forget about it for 60k miles
yea ive got the belt and tensioner ready. might aswell kill 2 birds with one stone. im hoping that the probs will be gone after changing the pump. fingers crossed huh.
