Hi all,
After 2 weeks of owning my new 07 SEAT LEON 2 Stylance i am beggining to wonder why i purchased this car and not stuck with my 56 plate VW GOLF Match edition 1.6 FSI, no problems with that car at all, only had it 4 months, but decided to change it as i liked the look of the LEON 2 and thought i would get a fairly decent price for it still on part exchange.
Reading about all the different faults on the SEAT cars at first didnt distract me as i thought not every car is purfect, but i didnt think i would be one of the owners that now has a substandard car[:@]
For parts to be rusty, paint falling off, radio that turns itself on and off when it feels like it, and god only knows what next, am i going over the top here or is there anyone else out there that is feeling the same as i do.

The bits that you listed as rusty are bits that will go rusty on any car. I do agree that cars have issues but get them resolved and then see how you like it. No car is perfect unfortunately

The car is going back on Thursday for the main dealer to look at, as far as rust though i dont expect to see that on a brand new car, maybe one a few years old, this was one i ordered, not one from the court yard, yes every car has its faults at some point.
Thought the car body was supposed to be galvernised, but i think i read in a thread that it was pretty poor on these cars.
My problem is if faults are starting to develop now then give it a year or two then would it be virtually unusable, and the thing is how many times do you have to keep going back to complain about faults on a car, pretty soon the main dealer would get fed up with you keep going back which is when arguments start then, i have seen this happen while sitting down at the dealers showroom wiating for something to be done on my car, at the customer service desks where owners are getting fed up with having to keep going back complaining about new faults, the worst one is being told there is nothing wrong with the car when you know yourself there is.
Sorry to go on like this but i just feel that i have waisted money on what is looking very much like a bit of a lemon, hopefully i can be proven wrong and things that need doing are sorted out or a another car is given to me, although the second option i would think is just in my dreams:headhurt:

Very sorry to hear the problems with your car. I was suprised that rust is showing through. Can you let us know where so we all look to see its not a major problem for all our cars and the Leons MK2 produced. Personally I would reject the car.

Its a part thats open to the elements. Whether it be a VW, Audi, BMW or Merc all of them would suffer the same issue. The wiper arms are not galvanised on any car.

Your choice but I personally think your being a little rash

No wires were exposed on the GOLF i had it was a MK5 the latest version, and acceleration was fast and performance very good.
Funny there was no rust what so ever on any part, not even the wipers, so it shouldnt be acceptable on this new car, but i am not complaining just because of the wipers, it is under the hatch door hinges, and looks like there might be some on one of the passenger door hinges, also damage done to it while having a part fitted at there garage and also other bits that have not been done very proffesionally.
I can see that i am sounding like a moaning old git, but should i just say what the hell and live with these things as some day they would happen anyway ?

Not saying you shouldn't live with it.

What damage did they do when fitting other bits? What will you swap to if you do sell it?

Having a 12v cover fitted on the centre console, I have been told on another thread that no damage should have been done as there is a special tool to remove the centre piece out so as not to cause any damage, what i have is screwdriver dents on the plastic surrounding one side of the centre part, as this seems what has been used to remove it.
Also i have the famous radio switching on and off by itself fault plus i need the other parts checked out for rust as i said before.

As for swapping which i cant see as being an option, all i want is for car to have the bits corrected and i will be more than happy, but i guess i need to wait and see what the outcome will be on Thursday.

If your unhappy still maybe its worth contacting trading standards and seeing if they can help. Have you spoken to the dealer principle about it?

The car is going in this Thursday to have these bits looked at, if they agree to correct what is wrong then i will more than happy, however if i am told nothing is wrong anywhere then i shall first say my piece, if that goes nowhere then it would have to result in trading standards.

I should have learnt a lesson really when part exchanging my other car, it seems that unless it is cash full amount on the new car you are getting then this decides if you get a factory fresh car or one that has been in a factory storage facility outside in all the elements.

i think you have been misguided about the way motor manufacturers store their cars. the image below is of nissans sunderland plant storage taken from google earth (its over 1/3 mile square!). all finished cars go to this area and then on to wherever by whatever means. cars are not built and put straight on a ship, ask many members of this forum about times between build date and delivery date.

What i cant understand is, if you are part exchanging a car you cannot have all the extras you would like, or so i have been made to believe twice, because the motor you have will lose to much value during the weeks you would have to wait, it wouldnt have bothered me waiting, what it looks like to me is like i said in part, if you are not going in to the main dealer with a full cash amount or unless you are part exchanging a car that is not worth that much, then you wont get one like you specify.
Having slightly gone off the subject i will wait and see what the outcome is of the original part of my thread was about, tomorrow

its up to you and the dealer to strike a deal that you are both happy with, regardless of wether its been a cash deal or trade in. why should you settle for anything less or something that doesnt fit your requirements.

anyway, i hope you get sorted later this week. dont get fobbed off or settle for something your not happy with.

I have to say I love the car and still think its the only car that ticks all the boxes for me. The car is not finished as I would have liked, rough on the plate which hold the bonnet catch, welding that seems untidy, and the plastics on the inside seem unfinished, rattle from deep behind the dash and a few more points. I am willing to put up with these because every time l get in I get a large smile :D.

Update, got car back from the main dealer today, here is what i was told !!

1. Rust on the wipers where the bottom of the spring is, apparently is standard rust on any new LEON 2.
2. What i thought was rust on the Hatch door hinges is where it hasnt been painted, standard on LEON 2.
3. Radio is faulty new one has been ordered for it.
4. Paint imperfection on drivers side sill just behind front wing, imperfection has slightly raised surfaces under the paintwork, SEAT was contacted by the main dealer, and have told them that if it cant be seen 1 metre away then i have to pay for correction and repaint, as it will not be covered by warranty.
5. And last one is the rust on hubs and disks are not rust, would love to know what the brown coloured dust on the hubs and disks are then.

Basically if the car has rust it has to be very noticable or it wont be covered in the warranty..
And any imperfections, unless it is noticable 1metre away then you have to pay out to correct it even though it is brand new.
So one item i am happy about, the rest :censored:
