I've got the steering wheel control modules now. Looks like I'll have to modify the harness adapter to get the plug for the modules to fit the other connections on the wiring loom.

One thing to note though, is I think there's an ignition power connection on the steering wheel control connections, so will hopefully be able to modify this to use with the head unit as well.

Hopefully get to is this weekend if I can.

Right been busy today!

I took out the panel around the cigarette lighter and wired an ignition feed from there. Ran it round to the head unit and voila!

The Can bus -/+ on the wiring loom are the controls for the steering wheel controls. I wired the control modules in and attempted to program them. I got the volume +/- and the mute to work but not the other buttons. I don't know yet if this is because of the module or I'm not programming it right. I'll have another go tomorrow. For some reason they have now stopped working, something must have come loose while I was shoving the unit back in the fascia.

I don't have the bluetooth option on my car, so purchased the Alpine bluetooth module and connected that. Can't get it working correctly yet but once again will have time tomorrow. Odd interface through the cd changer control menu!

Glove box came out fine. 3 screws at the top, 2 inside that you can only see when the box it open and 2 underneath. Glove box lifts completely out. 2 sizes of screws on the box though so you'll need a torx 20 and a 25. Not too much room for stuff in there but enough.

The head unit is a bugger to get completely into the fascia. In the hole, at the top left right at the back is a large void. You need to shove the iso connecters and grey alpine box up there for the radio to fit.

The aeriel - The fakra connector (well the one I had anyway) needed an adapter to fit onto the Alpine. £3.99 at halfrauds.

Park brake I just connected to the ground cable. Works a treat.

Ipod plays fine, and dvd plays fine too.

Quick picture. The thing on the top right of the fascia is the mic for the bluetooth kit.

Well its not entirely flush. I've been reading some threads on VW Vortex of a specific type of golf fascia adapter bit that sits deeper in the dash, but its so tight with the wiring behind I don;t think you could really go any deeper.

Same here had a play about with trying to get the alpine to fit flush but it sticks out about 5mm.

So who from here has been to K&M to have one fitted, my mate says there was a FR in on friday for a install.

Right. Only the volume and mute seems to work with the interface. Bit dissapointed but hopefully Alpine will sort themselves out and get a correct interface sometime soon.

What did you use to secure the VW adaptor? My facia falls off if I accelerate at the moment, but I'm not planning to fix anything in just yet until everything is working..
