Mine is not connected:whistle:

You need to connect the parking brake sensor in order to change the settings.. My display goes to sleep after 5 seconds, which is when the DVD should be playing. So still need to connect the parking sensor, if only for a little while.. ;)

(Almost got this going....) :)

The manual says the parking brake sensor must be engaged to access the DVD mode screen.. Same for the Display Setup and i-Personalise mode. Can you see these? Is yours not plugged in, or connected to something else?

So which wires are which?

I still don't know what they all are, but very simply...

ISO -> Quad-Link wires as below:

BLACK -> BROWN
RED -> RED/YELLOW

Then connect the YELLOW wire into the 2nd RED connector from the stereo end, which just bypasses the ignition (as I haven't found where the ignition wire is). This means the stereo always has power though, even with ignition off.. So not perfect, but working.

I don't think the BLUE wire on the ISO is needed and I don't know what the 2 thin orange cables on the QUAD-Link in the car are for.. The old stereo has a diagram on it with something like CAN/H and CAN/L but not sure what this means.. Also there are the 3 cables going into the little blue bit at the top of the Quad-Link which are not in use, but these might be something useful..

Just need parking sensor to go somewhere so I can change some settings.. haven't seen a DVD playing yet, as screen keeps going to sleep after 5 seconds.

Things still in the post are aerial adaptor and the VW facia. Can't believe its taken over a week for them to arrive! Stupid Bank Holiday..

Any extra info would be great! :)

The connections on the blue bit are the steering wheel control inputs (I think)

I had the unit powered up like you said, but have no idea which is the switched. Don't want to pay someone to do it for me though!

Thanks, but its not like that.

The Ground is Brown
The Battery (live) is red/yellow
There are also 2 other orange cables which we have no knowledge of what they do. I guess they must be illumination and ignition. I tried both of these as the ignition connection but they didn't work.

They are CAN-BUS wires. Good luck finding out anything about these.. I'd love to know! I found a wiring diagram for an AUDI, but it didn't really explain any of the wires. I wouldn't plug anything in unless you know what they are for, as I've found a few warnings about these causing problems elsewhere. Thats the last thing we need..

Just had a word with Alpine Technical support, and they said they don't have any details on the car at the moment, but did say:

"do not under any circumstance connect any wire to the can bus, unless it is a specific unit designed for the job.."

the parking cable just earth it anywhere and it wont bother you again...

i think we need to make a clear list of part bits and things to get the dual din dvd unit working with the steering buttons and the bluetooth i dont have the leon fr yet but i will pick her up this saturday finally....

i think for the best of the community a list of parts and a how to by the guys that are doing this already should be excelent as a sticky material

also anyone can tell me the size of the speakers in the car as i have a nice sound setup already and i want to know if i need to sell it or i can use it :)

Great looking install Birdy, very nice indeed [B)]

And a big thanks to everyone on this thread as it's been really easy finding the parts I need to get mine fitted. Seat sat nav surround has already purchased, and the golf adapter ordered.

Just have to decide on keeping the pioneer X1 or changing it for something a bit newer with full ipod control :shrug:
