Havin a browse through the 'bay and found a "Grundig MCD 46" 6Disc CD changer, but was curious if any of you clever leon-experts knew if this would fit in the glovebox space in my mk1?

I've done some searches and i've had varying opinions  that's why i'm asking before I fork out for something that doesn't fit ;)

how big is your glove box? I have one ( a grundig changer, that is) sat in my cupboard and also in the 'for sale' section in here. i can measure it up for you if you want?

You can only use the VAG changers with the VAG headunits. The exception to that is the likes of Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood and Sony that have adaptor boxes available to let you use them. I've not seen any Grundig adaptor boxes for the VAG headunits.

I don't know the measurements off the top of my head and it's still pouring with rain outside - someone in the forums here might know the dimensions for the standard MK1 Leon's glovebox?

It's the annoying standard glovebox where it's got a space for a CD changer as standard - but no cd changer!

Ahhh, a wise answer. Cheers!

Yeah, it's the Aura one - mmm, tape-deck. I haven't owned an audio cassette in nearly 6 years.

In that case you have a few options...

Replace the Aura for an aftermarket headunit - Cost: £75+ for something worth having
Find a VAG CD Changer second hand - Cost: £50ish, poss more, poss less depending on what the seller wants for it.
Find an aftermarket changer that has a suitable adaptor - Cost: £100+ for the changer and £15-50 for the adaptor depending on make.

Personally, I'd recommend a new headunit. You can get some very good units for less than £100 these days. Some very subtle looking units too that should match the cars interior nicely. The bonus of this is sound quality is improved along with the flexibility of having CD and MP3 capabilities in the car. The stock speakers are surprisingly good so a nice headunit alone can give excellent results :)

At the moment, most second hand VAG CDCs are about 80 quid, which to be fair I think is a bit steep - and I can't see a reason to spend more than £100 on an aftermarket changer :)

As you say, it's gotta match the interior of my car - any recommendations? I'm not looking to spend loads, since I won't be getting any extra capabilities from this besides a single CD playign device, and MP3 (which although I could pump out through my PSP, it'll probably never happen).

What you recommending nowadays? ;)

Std IS Grundig, do you really think Seat make cd changers??? LOL!! Not sure you can buy them from grundig tho?

This is one of the answers i'd found on a search of the forums, does this mean that a badged Grundig would work? (the one found by default on Leons doesn't seem to have a badge stating the manufacturer on the front, whereas this one does)
