Suspension bushes – again

My car is coming up to three years old and had its annual inspection service at Robinsons, Lowestoft yesterday. I asked them to check all the suspension bushes as the handling seemed to have deteriorated recently and I would like to get any problems sorted out under warranty.

They phoned me during the afternoon to say that one of the wishbone bushes needed replacing and that they could do it straight away under warranty. Naturally I agreed to that and they replaced the bushes on both sides. They also asked if I would like them to do the MOT at the same time for half price. Once again I agreed.

Apart from the bushes the only problem with the car was that it needed a new rear wiper blade and one new numberplate bulb. The total bill for everything was £192, which is quite a lot of money but worthwhile bearing in mind the cost of having the bushes replaced out of warranty. £50 of the cost was for oil!

I was given a black 07 reg 1.6 Stylance Leon as my courtesy car which was quite nice but did seem very sluggish after the Ibiza. The ride quality wasn't that much better either and with its new bushes my Ibiza is much more fun to drive.

The service manager told me that another customer discovered his suspension bushes had failed about a week after the warranty expired but SEAT refused to make any contribution, so I am glad I mentioned it to them. I really think the bushes should last more than 24000 miles though.

Yes, that included everything: Annual Inspection Service, replacing wiper blade and numberplate bulb and sorting out a creak in the dashboard when I moved the top of the steering wheel backwards and forwards, MOT (half price) and a nice, free courtesy car.

I've been very pleased with the service I've received from Robinsons. They supplied the car and have serviced it from new and I don't have any real complaints. I just hope I don't get too many problems when the warranty has expired.

I don't get my car done at Seat get it done by step familys garage who use seat parts for the warrenty. I only went to my local Seat garage yesterday to order parts and get two new wheel nuts and to get them to take the eroded ones off the car. Rashcupra from here has been to this garage and they fitted his cambelt wrong so it kinda put me off!

Yes, if you've found a good independent garage you might as well stick with them, although they won't be able to carry out any warranty repairs.

I've been buying cars and having them serviced by Robinsons, under their previous name of Simpsons, for years so I've almost become attached to them. At least it gives me an excuse to sit in all the new SEATs, VWs and Audis without getting hassled by the salesmen.:D
