Cupra GTI 8v Handbrake Cable

My car recently failed the MOT on the handbrake cable and needs a new cable replacement. The garage where my car is have been in contact with two Seat dealers and have reported that there are NO handbrake cables in the country suitable for my particular model of car. A cable has to be ordered from abroad and is on back order. This has no been ongoing for nearly 4 weeks!

Has anyone else had the same issue?

Surely unless the cable has snapped, it can just be tightened up. Take off the plastic handbrake surround (not the handbrake handle/grip) and you should see the cable splitting into two cables and those cables having a little nut on the end of them. All you have to do is tighten the nut to tighten the cable. If that doesn't help, space out the cable by putting some extra spacers or nuts between the cable nut and the little metal bit that holds the cables in place.

The cover of the cables split. When the cables pulled the cable at the end doesnt move only the cable casing bunches together.

Are the cables that rare?

Not that clued up on mechanics sorry.

Well you could always steal one from a scrapped Ibiza. I'm sure the scrapyard wouldn't want any more then £3 for it.

Thats the thing, the mechanic has had three different cables sent to the garage, none of which have been right for the job. He's been in contact with Seat and they say its a specific cable for my model of car Im not clued up enough to know any different unfortunately.

Ive just had my handbrake cable replaced after it snapped on me, I only had the car 2 days and the dude did warn me it needed done, Took my local garage 2 days to do the job, 1 day to order it and 1 day to sit there thinking about fitting it lol. And the garage i took it too is about the size of a yard holds no more then 2 cars at a time, And they got one as soon as i told them what i needed it.

Etka has a bit of a slip up on 97 on ibiza's and lists the Vario 99 on page and numbers in error 6N0 609 721 M

firstly see if their is a number printed on the old one (or other side) its in small text and white so can hard to find but most VAG cables have em somewhere just needs a clean to hunt it down

i think it's 6K0 609 721 F ? but depends on your chassis number

leave it with me and i'll see if i can double check on mine later if it stops pissing it down
