Oh Crud! Need new Pads/Disks ASAP! :help:

Its coming up to my yearly service on my LC and it was stated last year that the Disk pads had about 5k miles worth left before needing changing.

So been looking to get this done but it looked like there was quite a bit of meat left on the pads so kept putting it off for later.

Now i have just started to notice that the rear disks have just started grinding the disks :wtf:

I thought that i would get a warning light come up on the main display showing that pads have gone before it started grinding???

Can any one please recommend a good make for pads for my LC and can i get discount from any particular site that is sponsored by SCNET?,
also is it true that even if disks are in good condition they still end up changing them together with new pads????

Cheers ;)

if your discs are decent I cant see any reason why you would need to change them, you should just be able to change the pads.

depends, it is relatively common to just change pads
but you'd never fit new discs with old pads

new rear discs and pads cost me around £50 for the parts from a bloke called mike who runs a company called MOTOSERVE. He should be able to sort you with fronts as well

EBC are a good choice if your looking at upgrading, but obviously a large increase in price comes with this

Cheers Mate, I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to breaks  What breaks do you have on yours?
Is that £50 to replace the Original Disks and pads that came with the car?

I'm not sure if i should upgrade the breaks as after i have finished my mods my LC should be running at 212BHP
so not sure if the original breaks will be up to the job, what do you think?

Thanks again mate, Also Whats the best way to get in contact with Mike from Autoserve.

google MOTOSERVE, and then ring him up
i replaced the rear discs and pads with just OEM (original equipment) as the rear brakes dont do much so isnt worth spending the big money on.
if i remember rightly it was rear discs and pads for around 50-60 then get them fitted if you can fit them yourself, around 40.

Fronts if your running 212 is well worth upgrading to EBC turbo discs and red-stuff pads, could also change your fluid to a higher spec. This will cost, circa 250-300+ incl fitting.

you can get the EBC stuff from MOTOSERV as well, but also Bill @ Badger 5 on here will be able to sort you out with the EBC parts.

my LC is running standard brakes alround at the moment, but the fronts are going to be changed to the set-up i just explained

Thanks for your Time mate! :D
I've just taken off my wheels to have a proper look and its just the back Pads that need replacing (front have loads left),
Was looking to replace them with the EBC Red Stuff Pads for £37.59 but is it worth it? As you said the back breaks not to bother?

If it's not worth it where and how much can i pick up just the standard rear pads that came with the car?

 Thanks again for the INFO mate, just going to replace the back pads for now but will defiantly look at getting EBC turbo discs and pads when the fronts need doing.

I'm getting my pads changed this Friday by a local garage and have been told that it will cost £55 to get front pads changed.

But then corrected him and said its the back pads that need changing...
He then replied that it will be £65 to change rear pads as its harder to change rear pads???

So i said OK if so then the price should not change as the cost of rear pads are cheaper than the front pads.... He said that's true but it will be around £55-£65 depending as it may take longer changing the rear pads?

Is it really harder to change the rear pads compared to the front?

Cheers

£65 to change pads............i think im in the wrong business.

Pads are easy to change.

BTW I got my rear discs and pads for £29 inc delivery from ebay, arrived in 2 days via DHL

Will be changing them next saturday

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWN:IT&viewitem=&item=270114317553&rd=1&rd=1

Oh joy!

Oh well to late now, next time i will make sure i get my pads done before they totally wear out.

Just need to make sure this guy at the garage does not try to fob me off and tell me its going to cost more each time....

Also whats the best way to find out if i need new disks?
My mate told me
  • If there is any dips in the disk when running finger down them.
  • Any dark lines on disk, shows that the disk is heating up a lot and getting weak with age and use.
  • Damage from over used pads scoring disks.

Cheers

Enjoy some rape....

I got there and asked to confirm price and he said about £70-80, i told him he said £60 on the phone... [:@]

So in the end i paid him £70 to change pads with god know what make of pads but they seem to get much hotter than the front as well....
Also noticed that the fookers took it out for a 5 mile spin :censored:

Don't think I'll be going there again

that does seem good

make sure they arenot binding, if they are they will always be in contact with disc and thus when driving will heat up.

The above is the reason why I hate some garages, so hard to find decent one's so i end up doing it myself
