How do dealerships work - please help?

When I get my LCR (probably 03/04 plated) it will be the newest car I have ever owned (currently have a 16-year-old MX5).

I assume that my warranty would have run out with the SEAT dealership at this stage so would that mean paying for bits and pieces when they go wrong or would I be able to take out a new warranty? Also, when SEAT dealers carry out work on the car, do they offer a courtesy car during the time you have no car and would this still apply if I don't have a warranty on the car?

At the moment, when the MX5 goes into a garage (non-Mazda) I have to use my dad's car as a means of transport whilst my car is away.

Thanks - Cobradav2007

My local Seat dealer always offers me their courtesy car if I book my car in a week or so in advance. The only stipulation is as long as its refueled when its taken back.

It's all down to the dealer lottery. If you have a good local dealer you'll probably get one. Otherwise you'll probably get some lame excuse as to why you can't have a courtesy car. Like Emmer Green in Reading only allowing you to have a loan car if you bought you're car from them in the first place... [:@]

some will check your age.or ask you to cover it on your own insurance.different places vary. ring a few local ones and see what their policy is.

Every dealer varies. One will automatically ask if you want a courtesy car, while the next will do everything they can to put you off the idea. The best thing to do is ask before you book the service if this is important to you.

And don't forget that there are many good VAG specialist independent garages over the country that can service you car with standard parts to a higher quality than I feel Seat offer, often for a better price. Don't be afraid to not have it serviced by Seat :)

I'll second that.... mine's just had it's 30k service and the warranty runs out in June, after that it's JKM all the way for me....would rather it go to them!!!!

some may say lala land....
Andy3004, you'll drive 70ish miles to get your car serviced?
that must be a bloody well worth it garage with free coffee and lunch along with the quality service. Are there none near Oxford? (didn't have a seat when lived there so dunno)

Im often in the Southampton area at the weekends... and not too far from there!

I've had some shocking dealer experiences (worst was when my autochanger magazine got stolen at one), and I've heard good things about JKM....:)
