Has mine been re-mapped

My AUQ (2001) Made 239.1 BHP on the RR at weston Tuning. The guy i bought it off swears it hasn't been re-mapped, all he did was put on straight through side exit stainless exhaust (no-cats), A BIG front mount IC, high pressure race spec fuel regulator and a KD04 Turbo, now surely that lot alone would'nt give that power increase without a re-map of some sort or would it? The Engine is out of a damaged 2001 leon and now sits in my Caddy and uses the factory seat leon ECU. There was no Diagnostic port so i have had one put in. So either it was remapped before it came out of the damaged car (what power would a remap give a standard AUQ) or those new bolt on mods have upped the power. It cant have been mapped whilst its been in the caddy as i have only just put a Diagnostic port in.

The thing is a remapped K04 turbo would give you 275-280bhp with the above mods. (If its a 020/023 version)

It must have been remapped at some stage along its life as you cant simply bolt on a k04 turbo and run the standard K03 turbo software.

The question is, why would he spend thousands on turbo upgrade and labour, FMIC+Exhaust, and then not have a remap? Doesn't make sense to me, especially as he changed the FPR aswell. Again, you cant run a standard 3 bar fuel pressure map with a 4 bar fuel pressure regulator. The fuelling map would need to be re written and programmed for it.
If its a 020/023 version K04 turbo, you would need to upgrade the injectors or you risk running lean even with standard injectors at 4 bar.

However i cant see a reason as to why he would lie to you either:shrug:

Does it run the leon clocks, keys and immobilisor?!

I'd have thought it would be a K04-01 at those figures, but unlikely without a remap! You can write software direct to the ECU without the OBDII port, and don't discount the old skool way of physically chipping the ECU. There's not much on there out of the ordinary so it could quite easily be an off the shelf setup.

Yep the clocks/ keys/ ECU and immobiliser all out of a 2001 AUQ. There was no diagnostic port so he cant have had it mapped and he never chipped it and it only runs 1.5 bar max but a steady regular 1.0 bar and pulls like a train.

No but he could have had it chipped the old way, ie soldering on a physical chip.

1.5bar max boost has been chipped mate, no doubt about it.

Standard turbo runs half of that 0.7-0.8bar

So best bet then is a proper re-map? do i need new injectors or not and if so which type

It might have a propper remap.

Its only been the last few years really the OBD port tuning has been done. Prior to that it was the same software loaded onto a chip and added to the ECU.

If its a 020/023 based K04 turbo as used in the LCR/S3/TT then yes you will need to uprate the injectors. (386cc from LCR/S3/TT)

However you also get a K04/001 turbo that is not as good as the 020/023 versions. These are basically just K03s turbos, but with a larger compressor i think. If its this turbo its unlikely that you would require injectors.

You really need to find out which varient of K04 you have.

Do you have a diagnostics port to upload a tuned map from, otherwise it will be a physical chip soldered into ecu with tuned map stored on it.

You don't need a diagnostic port to remap a car, if you were to send me the ECU I could plug it in to a bench harness and program it that way. You're boost levels definatley indicate a non-stock map.

How do i find out which type of K04 i have? Also i now have a diagnostic port wired in, boost seems to be steady at 10 psi / 1 bar and strong all the way into the red with no limiter. So it has to be mapped/chipped etc... I still feel there is more in there as it feels like it could rev to 10,000 and still make power.

Ask the previous owner i suppose or look on the ID tag of the turbo.

I thought you said you were seeing 1.5 bar? (1.5 bar = 21-22psi)

In your above statement you say you are now only holding 10psi? (10psi = 0.7bar)

What is it? Thats a HUGE variation.

0.7 bar is standard mapping. 1.5 bar is remapped, tuned mapping!

Blimey, got all my sums mixed up:redface: I am/was seeing 1.0 bar on my guage. Well i fitted a new N75 (wrong way) and i saw 1.5 bar on a couple of occasions, but then steadied at a constant 1.0 bar (even with the n75 on the wrong way) but now the boost has gone down to 0.5 bar:confused: I will put the N75 on the right way around today and see if boost is back upto 1.0 bar again as it was before. I did ask the previous owner but he is adament he never had it mapped/chipped.
