Hi guys, i have a fiat punto mk2 HGT but i am looking at a MK3 Ibiza cupra tomorrow with 60000 miles on the clock, and want to ask are there any potential and obvious problems / pitfalls to look out for on them, so i can give the car a good check. I apologise foir my first post asking for help (i know it probably annoys you) but i want to make sure its not a duff car and i want to avoid ending up with a potentially expansive bill on my hands lol.

Thanks in advance

Anthony

just do all the usual checks when buying a used car.........common problems are coilpacks, maf, n75 valve, split hoses, external temp sensor....this will become apparant when you test drive the car though.

nothing of the above is overly expensive to replace but can be annoying if they fail at the same time as each other........or one after the other.

apart from that, they're a good honest car....check the history and see if the cambelt has been replaced as it WILL be due a change along with the water pump (metal impellor). Do you know what sort of life the car has had?

Well i went to veiw the cupra today and it was a total sh*tter.

All panels were faded, stunk of smoke, interior handles were all peeling, rust on roof and bonnet safe to say i walked away without even taking it for a test drive.....

However i have spotted one very local to me wtih 79000 on the clock, is this high mileage a problem? Are cambelt changes due about now and what else is needed to be checked on such a high miler? Also will it be able to be modded as easily as a lower mileage variant?

Cheers for all your help and advice guys

Regarding this first one you went to see, its a shame that its got into that kind of state, sounds like it needs some TLC.

The other: High mileage isn't a problem as long as its been looked after. Cambelt should be done after 60,000 miles OR 4 years along with the water pump. There are a few people on here who are running high milers and have had theirs cars modified. Like i said as long as its been looked after you've nothing to worry about.

Good luck

keep an eye out on the ECU light, cause you can make it go out by disconnecting the battery for about 30 mins.. but it will come back on again...
