Leon Mk 2 Replacemen Head Unit

Hi all, 1st post having just found this site. I am waiting to pick up a 2.0tdi stylance dsg in the next couple of weeks. I have opted for the 18 inch wheels sports pack, convenience pack, bluetooth and the heated seats.

I was wondering if anyone has actually changed the head unit on their mk 2 leon. From reading some of the posts i am thinking about fitting a din 2 alpine monitor head unit and some upgraded speakers, sub and amp. I have a couple of questions and need some expert advice:

1. Will the sat nav dash surround work? ie: allow me to fit the alpine system rather than the standard seat sat nav

2. Will the bluetooth still work?

3. Will the steering wheel controls work (for the radio and ipod)

I will post pics of my new car when i get it and pics of the ice install if all goes well.

Cheers,

Jim

Hello pal i am just going through the same process as yourself and have found out the following :-

1)
The sat nav surround will nearly work this makes the opening the same size as a new golf mk 5.
So the next thing you will need to get is a double din insert, I have just got one from ebay but it is split in two so i might cut the middle bar out or i have also orderd a double din insert for a golf from germany that has no split this was also from ebay.

2)
From what my local ICE shop is saying they can get the bluetooth to still work, will have to wait untill next weekend until it is fitted.

3)
If you are fitting a alpine IVA-W200Ri this has the option for steering wheel control so this should still work.

As i say i will be able to confirm all of this next weekend when mine gets fitted.

ps the part number for the san nav surround is 1P2858071A.

Cheers lads.

I am on my way to my local ice dealer now. I am going to run all this past him and see what he says. The part numbers etc are really helpful.

I will let you all know what they say whenb i get back in tonight.

Thanks again.

Just been to my ICE dealer and all is go for the head unit to get fitted next saturday.......he has said hes not too sure if the steering wheel buttons will work it just depends if alpine has sorted it out, but he has fitted one in a new golf r32 and everythin worked OK.

I have just got a Alpine Blackbird as well its being fitted under the passanger seat and will give me sat nav on the head unit.

Went to te delers today and they were pretty happy with the idea of installing the gear. They asked me to get hold of the dash facia for the sat nav version of my car and they will do the rest.

Birdy: I would be very interested in hearing about your install as its pretty much exactly what im after. Are you doing anything with the speakers or are you just seeing what they sound like with the better amp on the alpine?

Also are you going to be syncing the unit with an ipod. I am curious weather or not the video from the ipod will display on the alpine???

I havnt even picked up my car yet so im probably jumping the gun a bit, anyone unhappy with the speakers or are they pretty good?

This forum is excellent by the way. Unfortunatly after reading the posts i now hav a new head unit, sat nav, arm rest and dash facia on order!!!!

Cheers for the help though guys. Please post any pictures of you installs.

Hi mate i think i am going to leave the speakers as you say and see what they are like!

Yep it looks like we are both going for the same head unit.

The alpine head unit comes with a lead that they are going to install in the glove box will have to see if the video works.

will post some pics next weekend when its dun.

Cant wait.................

This part number for the sat nav surround '1P2858071A', is that from Seat? And what happens to playing CD's? Do you have to buy a CD changer (for under the seat?), or you already have one, or your not going to have one?

Also what kind of price are you guys getting the IVA-W200Ri for? I'm a bit confused which route to take now, quite fancy touch screen etc. Either way this might be of interest to both of you? Click me :)

so if i ordered the sat nav surround and a double din insert like yours i could put a standard size i.e single din head unit in?
