Harness Mounting point help needed

Ok I know where to put the harness in the rear (c-pillar), I know where to point one of the lap belt mounting points down by the door. BUT

Where should I best mount the mounting point at the side of the handbrake? Where would be best to drill? Or mount it?

when i built a road rally car i just bought the plates from rally design and put them just behind where the harnes slots were going to be on the tunnel ( this was on a pug 205) but should be able to do it on an ibiza the same

mount it on the existing belt mounts

however, do not use 3 point belts on std road seats

think what bill wrote at the bottom of that thread is quite usefull. i may need to change mine!! it has passed a few MOTs like it is though
seat belt fixings should not share the same fixings as the seat (MSA regs) and you can see why.

If fixing belts with eyelets thru the floor, reinforcing plates should be used. Rear harness fixing should be in line (centre line) of the seat and between the advised angles (horizontal thru down to a max of 45 degrees)

Decent fixings, using strong materials MUST be used, as the inertia of an object weighing 90kg stopping from say 50mph to zeroin a crash will have massive loading on anything holding you in.

Think best grade bolts.. not any old rubbish...

10:8 or 12:9 grade is minimum I will use personally.

don't mount in on the strut brace... it's not the same as a roll cage.

the rear lap mount will be fine.... and a lot safer in a crash

in an accident the vertical load can cause the seat to collapse, and the harnesses force your back to be the same shape..........

they're not designed to be pushed down on..

C pillar isn't great either, as that 'can' move in a crash too.. (so I've been told)

so it becomes loose & you flap about

what's wrong with the lap mount?

yeah, they're a good anchor point if you don't have a proper cage to use, or your belts are bolt on ones - you just need to be mindful of the angle the belt is at (should be in the instructions with your belts)

Mine is mounted at the lap attachment point on the rear bench. All as per the Sparco instructions and Alan from Autotechnic's many years of experience.

I can get you shot of the rear mount points tomorrow if that helps you out.

I agree that getting the angles correct is paramount as Mark says, risk of seat collapse and a broken spine otherwise.

but in all honesty, that stupid box will kill you in a crash anyway. you should remove it in fear of the good taste police, or at least make it less obtrusive

In a 60bhp car I dont think my car will reach a decent enough speed to dislodge the well bolted down box ;)

If I got a quicker engine I would probably sell the box and get something a little more subtle and mounted into the floor.

Gonna get the holes done next to the handbrake then atleast I can still mount my seat belt fasteners in and use them till I find a suitable solution to the harness problems.

Is there a nut on the other side of the bolt where you drilled through? Did you have to go undeneath the car to tighten it up?

I didn't fit it myself, garage did it. And with my car lowered unfortunately I'm not going to get under there very easily to find out for you - sorry. But based upon my knowledge of the person who fitted it, I suspect that there will be some sort of strengthening plate/washer and a nut.
