filter panel question

I'm not reeally clued in when it comes to engine mods. I own a 1.2 ibiza and was wondering about getting an air filter.

I'v found a k&n panel filter for £35 on the net. Just wondering what this does, and how it would fit etc etc. And also what the differnce is between that and an induction kit and can i have both in my engine?

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid basic question but i've found u lot r the best to ask without getting the p**s took out of me lol.

I'm also a 1.2 man - hopefully not for much longer though, I'm getting slightly bored of struggling to get up even the slightest hills! I would also be interested to hear you guys thoughts on this...

Im at uni for another 2 years, so im sticking with this until i leave. So i wanna get the most out of it i can!

Not a great deal of point tbh, about the only gain you'll get is a slightly raspier note from the engine, if anything though I'd get a Green one off Bill @ Badger5, not a K&N.

The panel filter is inside the engine cover, not a great deal of difference between that and fitting a conical type with a cold air feed, you'd probably get slightly more airflow that way, but again I don't think it makes much difference to the engine.

why wouldn't you go for a K&N? Will i need to remove the engine cover permantly?? Also is it easy to fit?

probably no point in a K&N as they are expensive and for more powerful cars. like sticking a V8 in a Rover 25, whats the point??!!

Did some research and theres no point doing anything modded wise to the engine of a 1.2 - strut brace will help your cornering though.

I'm looking more for sound from the engine. Have you got a strut brace onn yours? If so where you get it from?

What other mods have u got??

going to get one for my 1.4 but dont know wheter to get the panel type or induction type.
correct me if im wrong but i think you will have to keep the engine cover off if fitting the induction type
i wanted to keep the original look incase i have a bump cause i dont think directline will like it if i have a big induction under it but if i have a pannel one i doubt they will take the time to take it all apart to check

Green are just generally regarded as better, K&N are quite oily though this only plays tricks with the bigger engines. A green one will be very close to the same price. Nope you'll just need to replace the panel filter inside the engine cover as they're the same size. The cover will have to be removed to do this.

Yes, you will have to modify your engine cover if you want an induction kit type. Not sure how the induction kit would affect insurance. It's not exactly like it increases performance

I've got a spare engine cover for the 1.2 if anyone wants to make me a reasonal offer for it? Brand new OE panel filter aswell PM me if interested

anyone know how often they change the filters for the PD130's? was gonna get a green panel filter when it is to be changed!

Bought a K&N filter for my 2.0 8V sounds slighlty better but can't tell the difference between standard and K&N performance wise. Wouldn't bother with an induction kit a lot of money for hardly any, if any performance gain. Heard some stories they make things worse!

Ive got a Pipercross cone filter on my 1.2...no change in performance...as expected lol
