LCR Reliability - Poor

I go my LCR last July and was always worried about the reliability after 5 years of failure free motoring from a Nissan 200SX.

Here are all the problems I have had so far.....

Before I got the car, under warranty (could be others)..

Water Pump
Head Gasket
Turbo

Since I have had the car

2 Coil Packs
Brake Light Switch
Wheel Bearing
LCD on climate control unit

Not to mention all the rattles I had to fix

Personally I think this is terrible for a car thats only done 40K.


Don't get me wrong, I think its a nice car, great to drive. But as I am planning to keep it for some years, I am not wondering.....WHAT IS GOING TO GO WRONG NEXT???

Having a water pump, head gasket and turbo go before 40k is pretty bad luck!

I don't think there are many people that have had that many serious issues at such a low mileage...

In my limited experience a lot of this is down to poor dealers. I don't trust them as far as I could throw them with servicing etc etc. But as I said in my experience, others could be ok.

Or you could just be unlucky and the previous owner been a nutter with very little mechanical sympathy!

My Cupra has suffered from electrical failure, climate control failure, and severe leaking all outside warranty

Mine overheated after 2 weeks of buying brand new caused by a coolant pipe not being fitted properly.

You definately had one of a bad bunch matey, i havent heard any as bad as that!

My guess is that the water pump whent and the previous owner ran it for long enough to cook the turbo and cook the gasket.

And i almost forgot.... Some of climate control display segments whent and I had to fix that also. (added above)

Waterpump and coil pack problems where fixed on later models to my knowledge! I have had the brake light switch problem but apart from that trouble free motoring!

Iva had mine since Novemeber - 9k miles - no problems as yet - couple of funny hesitations but mostly paranoia a hope! Generally the 1.8 t engine is reknowned for reliability!

I would say though the lcr is generally reliable, the vast majority do not have any problems and don't forget people only post on here when they have an issue. Bad luck though but its the same with any car, anything can go wrong no matter how expensive it is to buy.

I've had a waterpump about to go too and it is going in tomorrow for a replacement. It went only 7 months out of warranty at 44k - what is this known issue with the waterpump? SEAT have told me they are not considering themselves liable but I suggest having it go at 44k miles and 3.5 years old is exceptional.

Sorry to hear of your problems, but it could have been worse. If you'd have owned one of the silver ones that were being used for the Prodrive track days in 2005 you'd have been lucky if the wheels were still on them. God did those cars get some stick.

I think you will find there was a recall for the Coil Pack problems. I own a standard CUPRA and after contacting my loal dealer they informed me of the coil problem.... Gave them my Reg, they checked on the PC and mine had already been changed..... spot on.......
Not sure if its the same on the CUPRA R's but Seat have also changed the Timing/ Cambelt intervals..... to Every 4 years... going in soon to be changed... coming upto 50,000 miles....

I think that is just extremely bad luck. I have had two Leon's now and never had any such problems.

my water pump went kaput at 32k strangly devolped rattle fron the glove box and back seat and ive had it 2months lol

The standard waterpump has a plastic impleller that is known to be a weak point. When getting a new pump you should try and make sure that it has a metal (brass I think?) impeller.

water pump is a common fault with all vw group cars and vauxhall, you have been warned!

I've got to 60k with a few faults along the way:

rear wash wipe motor broke
clutch cylinder went
lots of creaks and rattles
glove box kept falling open
fold rear seat release stuck
NSF seat belt sticks
fans and thermostat went
water tank sensor
intake air hose split

oh and one coil pack

actually this is quite bad!

our ibiza also had the cooling fans replaced as they caught fire

One Toledo TDi 110 - 75k miles (I've done 22k of that in 15mths) and no problems with it at all (touch wood!) most reliable and comfortable car I have owned.

in the year i've had my LCR it has had a new MAF and apart from consumable stuff like tyres and brakes it hasn't missed a beat! oh, it has had a new splitter due to an inconsiderate pheasant!

mine was a friday afternoon car aswell ive had a waterpump,2 turbo's,2 window regulators,front and rear wiper motors.new rear bumper, various boost valves,shock absorber,a pair of mirrors, 3 radios,3 coil packs, a headlight and had the whole car painted and it's done 50,000 mls and is only just 3 yrs old
