probably, not too sure, but i think it maybe has something to do with windows interfering with the signals or something...

You might be able to get a serial pcmcia card off ebay prob only £5 but wether it'll work in dos or not im not sure...either that or drag you desktop out to the car...or maybe even a really long vag com cable dunno what the limitation of RS232 cables are though.

This is an interesting thread. Does anyone know if the KVW100 is re-usable? By that i mean, once it's plugged into my car and done the business could i plug it into my Brothers Polo, and my mates Golf etc etc or sell it on without it being a 1 use or 1 car only item?

Cheers for the Vid link. It looks good. if i get one it serves no purpose once it's done what it does, so it would be good for me to be able to seel it on at a small loss of a few quid. that way i would have full closure for next to nothing ;)

no its not reusable, one use only, bit stupid hey ho...

here the official website:
http://www.szkvw.com/english/product.htm

aparently you can use it with windows xp... check out one of the last posts on that forum...

wow, with XP you dont even need to make a boot disk....

What I did was click Run... From the start menu (or windows key + R)
type in CMD [press Enter]
depeding on where you located the file switch to that by finding the directory ( in my case My Documents/VW Software/VDS_Pro)
Start by switching directories using CD/[Name of directory here]
Example:
C:\Documents and Settings\Sean>cd/my documents[Enter]
C:\Documents and Settings\Sean\my documents>cd/VW software[Enter]
C:\Documents and Settings\Sean\my documents\VW software>cd/VDS_Pro[Enter]
C:\Documents and Settings\Sean\my documents\VW Software\VDS_Pro>vdc_e.exe [Enter] (this is launching the VDS program)

cd/[Folder name] goes to that folder cd.. goes back one folder

If you cannot remember the entire directory you can always type in DIR [Enter] and it the cmd prompt will list all the directories available. once you get into the VDC folder you can type dir.exe[Enter] and it will list the executible files for that folder.

I found out that the program will not load unless the Serial cable is not plugged in and apparantly as soon as it starts it attempts to connect to the car immediatly.

hopefully this was clear, and it works for most of you. i was bummed when people were saying that this will not work on XP but the last VDS_Pro link that dutch-mountains posted earlier on this page works flawlessly

WOOHOOO!!

Oh and you need a copy of this aparently to work with xp...

Cheers GTD86, that link explained it for me. Shame it can't be used on other cars. makes it a waste of money really, but i suppose it means the company will make more that way.
I've only got a USB vagcom cable so if you get yours to work please let me know.
Cheers

£11 delivered for a twin k line serial cable, worth upgrading from my crappy single line!

Anybody know if elm327 cables work with the seats/VAG etc?

Tried it on my laptop, but no joy conecting. Think it must be down to it being USB, but i could be wrong.
Unless someone else has managed it with a USB lead and is happy to post up a guide, i'll be buying that module too.

I can do the alarm etc using vag com, but i couldn't get a connection using the USB cable and the software on that link.
If you were able to do it using a USB lead, please can you give me a clue as to how you did it? Mine is a Leon MK1 FR TDI 55 plate in case that makes a difference?

nah sorry just use proper diagnostic equipment
Why post how easy it is then when every post in this thread was talking about using Vagcom cables and other software. Not very helpfull to turn around and say "nah, just use proper equipment"...... do you think i have this stuff in my shed?

Surrey darling...
This is all great news! There's hope for me yet...

So does anyone know if the KVW unit does the mirrors as well as the windows or is that a VAG-com thang?

Tempted to buy the unit as an easy option - unless anyone with VAG-com lives near me and would like to give a fellow Seat owner a hand? ;) :D
