At about 4:50 ever weekday, I can hear the note of a tuned P1 as it pulls itself down the road, tearing at the tarmarc. The noise is insane, as with most Imprezas. That gargling note is beautiful :D

Got me thinking; will a Leon ever be able to sound like that? In terms of note, as opposed to volume. The characteristic gargle-worble noise that Imprezas create. What's the deal with it? I want it! :D

I have a solution!

What you want to do is record the Impreza noise and whack it on a CD.

Then rig up a dirty great ICE system to your car, maybe with some speakers cunningly hidden in your bumpers and/or under the car. Then just play the CD at full volume whenever you're driving, and pretend it's your car making the noise!

Problem solved;):D

Yup as above, the noise is due to the flat four boxxer engine in 2.0 imprezas up to 05. The new 2.5's have a far less distinct engine note.

Ah, now you mention it.. I think I've been told this before. And even when I stamped my feet and demanded a similar noise; none could help me.

I saw the most horrific thing ever just before christmas. Some nob-jocky in a Corsa had a little device that outputted the sound of various cars/engines starting, idleing, driving by and redlining :S Oh my did he work that little box hard.

One moment he was a V8.. next, a Skyline. Then I found the box of tack on a bolt-on mods site. Horrific.

Soo.... shoe-horning an impreza lump into a leon, eh?

Imprezas run unequal lenght manifolds , well the turbo models do , which is why the non turbo sport models sound so crap..

So yes its helped by the flat four , but also down to the type of manifold

Is it true Porsche's have a boxxer engine as well? Maybe certain models? Similar thing to the Impreza's?

Or am I getting confused with the Boxter? :headhurt:

Its not all due to the lump (but without it it wouldnt do it). Un equal headers help. If you hear the JKM (think thats them) tuned scoobies, they dont sound much like the stock ones/mildly tuned ones as they put equal headers on there (as well as a hell of allot more!). One of the fellas at work has one and he de tuned his to get the note he wanted

Yep JDM - Japanese Domestic Market.. . the name has since become used over here for japanese imports..

Ovcourse decatting / aftermarket exhaust systems amplify the "burble noise"

I have a straight through system on my scooby and my god it sounds good!

Std Non Turbo "sport" imprezas lack the turbo impreza "burble" because of the manifold used on these.

Many Sport owners fit a borla manifold (unequal) to create the burble sound of the turbo models.

Search youtube. "Borla + Impreza " think there are vids of these on there
