Assuming your Dad's Leon had the changer in the glovebox the Changer loom you need to remove is an absolute b*stard.
I removed one from a Leon at a scrappie and it was a mare, had to remove nearly the whole lower dashobard on the passenger side.
Then you have to undo the original wiring loom tape because the changer loom is part of the main loom.
I would recommend buying one from Ebay.

Even if the car doesn't come with a changer the changer loom will be there.

peter peter peter you should have faith in me from start to finish took me 15 mins to remove the glove box take radio out remove a post trim and remove all the cd changer wiring and put it all back together saved myself 24 quid and cd changer works fine.
i have to say im impressed with the steering controls as well even controls the cd changer as well!
just waiting on my amp pre outs for the seat head unit then all will be good, standard sound is actually better through the seat head unit that the jvc!

Sounds very stealthy Gaz..........and a free cd changer. Does the changer fit in the same type of housing found in the Leon glovebox?

no housing but a bit of foam underneath and on one side and its secure lol there is a weakend bit off the back of the glove box that is easily cut out to feed the wires out of the glove box! very happy with it and pre amp lead has been sent out today so all shoulds be good next week!

You are lucky, I was doing it in the rain, the leon's footwells were full of water and it stank of rats sh*t!
Glad you got it sorted.

Even if the car doesn't come with a changer the changer loom will be there.

Does this apply to the Ibiza with regard to a changer in the boot?
According to maxcars1
There'll be no existing wiring installed for the changer.......//......
If the wiring is there it'll make my life a lot easier especially if the connector for the CD changer is already fitted!

No sorry joonspoon I was referring to the Leon.

Never mind.

Weather permitting I'm off to a local breakers Sunday to look at a Mk.3 Ibiza.
Apparently it did have a boot mounted changer so wiring may still be there (I hope).

If that fails I'm doing ebay.
I'll have spent more looking for a cheaper option than if I'd bought a new one in the first place.

It's fitted and working, plus the steering wheel controls still work! :D :D :D

Ended up buying a cable from my local dealer. Part no: 1J0051592A.

£35.00! :-o

But it was off the shelf (makes a change  ), has all 3 mini-iso plugs, genuine Seat/VAG and 10 miles up the road.

The cable from eBay with the 2 extra mini-iso's I needed plus p+p worked out at £31.00. Also 7 days delivery from Germany or Poland so no contest.
Couldn't find a 12 pin VW type connector to buy for love nor money!

Worst part was removing the existing 1 piece 20 pin connector without wrecking the remote control wire and connector.
Attacked it with a stanley knife and then some pliers.
It finally exploded and I now have small bits of plastic all over the inside of my car. :(
Never mind, will vacuum at the weekend.

Thanks to all who posted with advice.
Regards Guy.

If anyone knows of a place to get cheap 3 part mini-iso's or 12 pin VW connectors please PM me or post in a new thread.
Thanks Guy.

The best I've seen is £4.00 per plug with £2.00 p+p on top of that.
A bit pricey in my opinion.
As far as I can tell you need to fit all 3 together. That way they clip in and are stable in the back of the head unit.

I've moved the changer from the boot to the glove box.
Took the £35.00 cable back for a refund and got a shorter one for just over £21.00.
Part number 1M2 971 735.
That's better! :D
