hello.

iv been looking on the forum for sevral months, and i really want to get a cupra r.

Today i have been out for a test drive, and my wanting has been turned into needing.

i would just like to know what they are like in turms of running costs. are they expensive, in genral to run and maitian.

thats not at all bad really is it.

i work at a motor factor, so i can get any parts at stupidly low prices.

im driving a mk2 golf gti at the moment, thats probably that same, if not worse on fuel.

i read that they are prone to a few faults, water leaks, etc. apart from 'minor' things like that, are there any major faults i should be looking for as i view possable cars?

Make sure that the (engine) fans work at both speed settings. They should always be on, when the aircon is on. (slow speed):D

"The fans on an LCR (don't know about the other models, but think it's the same on Ibiza Cupra's) have 2 speeds - slow and fast. The slow speed is meant to run continuously when the a/c is on, to keep a slight draft over the radiators - in particular the a/c one. The higher speed is for when extra cooling is required. Those of you who's cars, like mine was, have the high speed fans cutting in every 20 seconds or so, it is likely that the relay switch has failed (or the fans have both lost their low speed setting).
Because the fans are now regularly starting and stopping on the high speed setting, this causes stress on the motors. This in turn can cause them to fail. I think I mentioned earlier in the thread that mine had sounded like an air raid siren for a while - one of the symptoms."

Parts are really the most expensive bit of owning a LCR - but if you work in a motor factors then that shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Where abouts in East Sussex are you?

YOU, WILL, LOVE IT. I told the missus there was no harm in a test-drive. 1 week later I left the house in a black VW Polo and returned in a silver LCR.
I'm no longer allowed test-drives (not even bikes :cry: ).

Tyres are my bugbear. I've stuck with the Pirelli Pzero Rossos'. Problem is I'm only getting about 7-8K out a set of front tyres. Really not worth keeping them beyond the 3mm limit as they just get slippy.

You get the odd rattle, just turn the tunes up. Whats really painfull is my nearside rear speaker is rattling, now turning the radio up, turns the rattle up :(

i will be sure to look at the fans. I will probably be buying one privetly, rather than from a dealer, i will be able to save a few pounds that way.

any ideas on where the best insurance deals for a LCR are to be found?
im with direct line at the moment.

Im in Crowborough, East Sussex.

I'm going to be the proud ower of a Leon Cupra very shortly, test drove it this morning and couldn't fault it!

Its a facelift model so looks the the Cupra R and does look damn good!

brakes are not that cheap on the LCR, and tyres also.

sensible driving you will get near 30mpg.

however i think most get 25-28 on here.

cam belt, tensioner and water pump while your there will need to be done at soem stage dependant on mileage / age.

do a search on here for info, there is lots of it!
