Engine coolant sensor, right hand side of engine.

Normally if its causing problems it will give you an engine light though.

Rob, do you have the standard airbox in, or an open cone filter? Sounds like heat soak especially if noticeable after standstill.

Are both routes to your side coolers free of any obstructions? Nothing trapped in there restricting airflow to the coolers?

You can only spot boost leaks on a RR test really as the car needs to be under load.

Hmmm, im stumped buddy if its not any of the problems that have already been discussed.

Mitchy - The car is standard other than a Forge 007P DV and a new N75. The air box and panel filter are both standard.

The thing that has puzzled me most, is the fact the power came back today! Normally I've put it down to 'limp mode' and the power stays reduced until the car has been stopped for a while. But today it came back and stayed back. This is why I'm wondering if I have a faulty sensor that is giving strange readings? I'm puzzled. I really am.

JKM have a rolling road and they said if they can't find the problem with a good inspection, they will get it on there and see what they can find.

Fingers crossed!

My problem though, is I like to know 'Why?' I like to know what causes problems, why it happens and what can be done to put it right :)

This is the best way to find the answer IMo, use a specialist and the RR if the car needs to but put under load to test things, may cost you a few £££ but it's worth it for peace of mind

that it was, and yes they did. Managed to sort in 20 minutes what SEAT couldn't sort out in an 8 hour day. I think they forgot to open the bonnet! Cheaper than the £2500 they quoted for replacing the turbo!

Sounds all too familiar after a day at the dealers the Seat Service manager at Holders told me there was no issue with a pipe I questionned.

40mins in TSR's workshop and they traced the fault to the exact same pipe (infact it was split both ends not just one end)

Well folks, it's time for todays instalment of 'what the bloody heck is wrong with this German/Spanish bastid car'

Driving home from work, pulled away from a junction with a nice open road in front of me.... In second gear, put my foot down, off she goes... oh, no, she doesn't. It felt normal for a second or two, revs flew up, speed rose nicely, grin on face got bigger.... and then it was as if something physical stopped all that. Imagine sucking through a straw and then having 95% of the end covered up. That's what it felt like.

From then on it stayed like that, and felt as if something physical was stopping me from making the normal power. Even the throttle felt different to depress.

Now somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but a MAF or N75 wouldn't do that, would it? It would work... or not work. It wouldn't work and then pack up all of a sudden, would it?
And again, correct me if I'm wrong, but does this not yet again point towards a split hose somewhere? It's almost as if there was a sudden drop in pressure somewhere.

Sounds like a mapping issue to me but then your standard aren't you?

Get the car remapped, it may sort it out.
Install a boost gauge to keep an eye on things.

Im surprised you have had no engine warning lights?

I would have instantly thought MAF but you've already said thats fine and your N75 is fine so god knows whats up buddy:shrug:

It may actually be down to the spark plugs like someone else has suggested? Were they defo changed at the 40000 mile service?

Yeah car is standard. The only changes to this have been to fix these damn problems

Would love to get it remapped, but can't justify spending hundreds of pounds on a car that doesn't work, especially with Christmas coming up.

could be a loose pipe, what i mean is when the engine gets hotter the pipes will expand and maybe cause a slight boost leak or vaccum leak

That's the sort of line I'm heading down at the moment, but then I've got to the point where I'll believe anything if I think it will make my car work properly!

Exactly. And yes, it is booked in for tomorrow still, going down there for 9:30 and will hang around until it's done. Will be interesting to see what they find and how they find it :)

I'm back :D And so is my LCR's performance :D

Been at JKM in Portsmouth since 9:30 this morning (once I managed to find the place after I got lost.... ) and the car is sorted. And it turned out to be.... MAF!

The car was terrible to drive on the way down there, as expected, which I thought was a good thing as at least they would have something to work with. So the guys at JKM took the car out for a drive, came back and said... it works perfectly :censored: Ruddy typical. Every log they ran was spot on, even at higher temperatures.

So it went onto the rolling road for further abuse and testing and a while later they came back to say they managed to replicate the fault  Turns out the MAF was giving some really erratic readings, but not all the time. As I understood it, the main cause of the problem was when the car was warm, under a constant load (i.e. cruising) and you put your foot down to accelerate. That ties in perfectly with what I had experienced!
With this fault, the car was peaking at only 6PSI! And it made a whopping 165-ish-BHP!

So they tested the car with a spare MAF (same part number) and logged everything again. This time it was perfect! Boost was holding at around 11.5PSI and peaking at 12PSI and this time it made 208.5BHP. Happy days :D

The chaps working on my car did comment on the fact that my air filter was filthy (serviced only 5k ago!) and they suggested replacing it. So I asked for a new Green panel filter which they had in stock and fitted right away. At the same time they fitted a brand new MAF and re-tested the car. This time it made 209.5bhp and around 230lb/ft torque :funk:
A quick road test showed no signs of any other problems, it drove correctly and boosted correctly, so job done!

My warranty company coughed up for the new MAF and labour to fit it, just leaving me with the bill for the diagnostic time and the panel filter.

At this point I want to say a big, huge, MASSIVE THANK YOU to everybody at JKM Motor Services!!!!! They were fantastic beyond my expectations. Friendly, polite, very knowledgeable, took the time to explain every last detail including showing me dyno prints of what the problem was. From the cup of tea when I got there, to dealing with my warranty company, to handing me back the keys to my now working car... they honestly could not have been better!

If anybody in the Hampshire or surrounding areas needs a good, honest and professional garage I would, without doubt, recommend JKM! My car will be going there for everything it needs from now on as I've never experienced customer service as good. Thank you very much JKM

In case anybody is interested, I'll scan and upload the print outs I was given that shows what the problem was and what it's doing now :)
