I'm back
And so is my LCR's performance
Been at JKM in Portsmouth since 9:30 this morning (once I managed to find the place after I got lost....
) and the car is sorted. And it turned out to be.... MAF!
The car was terrible to drive on the way down there, as expected, which I thought was a good thing as at least they would have something to work with. So the guys at JKM took the car out for a drive, came back and said... it works perfectly
Ruddy typical. Every log they ran was spot on, even at higher temperatures.
So it went onto the rolling road for further abuse and testing and a while later they came back to say they managed to replicate the fault
Turns out the MAF was giving some really erratic readings, but not all the time. As I understood it, the main cause of the
problem was when the car was warm, under a constant load (i.e. cruising) and you put your foot down to accelerate. That ties in perfectly with what I had experienced!
With this fault, the car was peaking at only 6PSI!
And it made a whopping 165-ish-BHP!
So they tested the car with a spare MAF (same part number) and logged everything again. This time it was perfect! Boost was holding at around 11.5PSI and peaking at 12PSI and this time it made 208.5BHP. Happy days
The chaps working on my car did comment on the fact that my air filter was filthy (serviced only 5k ago!) and they suggested replacing it. So I asked for a new Green panel filter which they had in stock and fitted right away. At the same time they fitted a brand new MAF and re-tested the car. This time it made 209.5bhp and around 230lb/ft torque
A quick road test showed no signs of any other problems, it drove correctly and boosted correctly, so job done!
My warranty company coughed up for the new MAF and labour to fit it, just leaving me with the bill for the diagnostic time and the panel filter.
At this point I want to say a big, huge, MASSIVE THANK YOU to everybody at JKM Motor Services!!!!! They were fantastic beyond my expectations. Friendly, polite, very knowledgeable, took the time to explain every last detail including showing me dyno prints of what the
problem was. From the cup of tea when I got there, to dealing with my warranty company, to handing me back the keys to my now working car... they honestly could not have been better!
If anybody in the Hampshire or surrounding areas needs a good, honest and professional garage I would, without doubt, recommend JKM! My car will be going there for everything it needs from now on as I've never experienced customer service as good. Thank you very much JKM
In case anybody is interested, I'll scan and upload the print outs I was given that shows what the
problem was and what it's doing now
