well the time has come to sell my corsa c which i loved but now im after something faster and because of the insurance groups etc i decided on a seat ibiza fr tdi instead of the petrol as the petrol insurance was way way more.I wasnt to sure on getting a diesel to begin with but after test driving it i was well impressed. my cousin also has the the 1.9 tdi fr and hes very impressed by it and told me in time if i wanted to tune it up etc better options are available for the diesels with remaps etc. Is this true to begin with? what sort of power could you get out of the fr tdi(130) with diferent mods etc?
also as i test drove the 2005 edition of the fr it didnt have 17's so i was wondering as im gettin the 2006 edition wth 17's would it need lowering etc - does it look like a monster truck standard or isit ok? would the eibachs from my corsa fit it if i took them out? or would it be a better option to save up for coilovers? £600 and im not sure if it worth it or not to be honest as i could invest that money towards a remap in months to come
these are few pics of my corsa gna miss it loads but im looking forward to getting the fr now.

take a look at the sticky threads at the top of the page. they contain most info about tuning the tdi ibiza.
no the springs on your corsa will not fit. don`t even think of trying them. the tdi engine weighs an absolute ton so springs have to be pretty strong to support it.

nice corsa tho, especially with the astra style front end. people tend to go way too over the top with corsa`s but that one is spot on!

17 inch wheels look fine same tyre circumferance as the old 16's just lower profile on the 17's and look nice! there are the same amount of tuning companies for tdi and the 20vt most places do maps for both!
remapped fr tdi will get about 170 bhp maybe 180 depending on which map you go for!

The TDI FR i just sold had only a couple of mods and was rolling roaded at 186Bhp and 330lb/ft torque.. To put the torque intocontext which is the important thing on a diesel, thats 60lb/ft more than a Ferrari 360 Challenge stradale and 30 lb/ft more than the porsche 911 GT3 (997). So serious levels.

All i did was remap, seat intercooler and panel filter and a full Milltek exhaust system. On the go from say 50mph my old one would pull on scoobies and evo's which even i am still shocked, least of all them. And the Tdi's are still the quickest off the mark, they set amazing 60ft times up the strip, its just the high end the lose out.

But a couple of well chosen mods and ou have an animal of a car, and before anyone tells you to go get an allards big turbo, you don't need to. If you want to start messing with turbo's and spending serious money then you'd be better off buying the 1.8t cos thats where the serious bhp figures come in with trque not too far behind the TDi. I only know cos i have had a tuned one of both FR tdi and FR 1.8T.

good point ant if you take a tdi along way you lose the point of having one for fuel economy really might as well have the 1.8t poping away all day long!

Im 100 % sure you will be happy with the TDi altho im not a diesel fan you have to give them credit and like ANT FR says the torque on them once mapped is just silly...

Dont think that one's true. The TDI's are excellent IMO one of the best if not the best diesel on the road, but at the end of the day you can always push petrol that lilttle bit further. Mod's are plenty for both.

cheers for the fast replys peeps. hearing all this has made me feel much better bout getting the diesel now. would you need to upgrade alot of components a nd brakes etc if i had a remap?another thing is - i heard by getting a custom exhaust system for a diesel there isnt much differnece in sound etc can any1 comfirm this?whats the real 0-60 in the diesel as ive read the real figure is 9.2 but others claim its much less? what u guys think?

mid 8's i would to 60 due to needing a change to 3rd, but once breathed on high 6's are achievable.

no not really mate all i "upgraded" was the DV for a forge but i THINK you dont need to change anything with just a remap.

Just a list of a few mods you can do:

Remap to 170-185bhp [£350-£550]
312mm Audi TT Brake setup £255 [A must IMO]
PD160 intake /Green panel filter £50 [Good cheap mod]
Exhaust - Diesels don't need a cat to pass an MOT, Can pay between £50 or milltek do the full system for £600 i think
Forge Intercooler [A must if your remapped IMO] £600
Strut brace £35
Coilovers - £380-£600

Standard

0-60 8.5-9.0secs
1/4 mile 16.5 secs
130mph top end
130bhp
230lb/ft torque

Remapped

0-60 6.6-7.2 secs
1/4mile 14.8-15.2
135-140 top end
170-185bhp
280lb/ft-310lb/ft

Hope this helps ya bud

EDIT: With a custom exhaust the turbo sounds loads louder, spool up times are reduced and the car revs easier... The exhaust note is a tad deeper/boomer, kind of amplifies the tractor noise at idle tho...!

welcome mate, i did the same move, went from an 02 plate corsa 1.2 sxi, to a 54 plate ibiza fr tdi,

it was the best change i could have made, and i get alot more power, for only a bit more insurance, and i get better fuel economy!! woooo

got a call today to say car is in so im picking it up now week thursday. well excited now tho. couple of other questions - isit posible to smooth the boot? as i noticed on the showroom ibiza that the boot badge is also the boot handle? can u still smooth it over and get a boot release button fitted inside?also do u think its worth me gettin the side stripes colour coded in the garage before i pick it up or do u think it will look ok as the car is black? also is there an equivalent of a dump valve for a turbo diesel?
