Sounds similar to mine although it was my passenger wheel plus the ABS / TCS was kicking in way to early, sometimes it was flashing when slowing for stopped traffic from about 15mph

Checked on VAG Com and it showed an error on the ABS sensor controller, wherever that is. Its in to be checked next week....

I guess it is intermittant and only when turning with hard lock at low speed?

If so i'm 90% certain it is going to be the wire going to the ABS sensor on the front near side wheel (rather than a faulty sensor) the wire breaks and when the car is on lock the wire is stretched and sends false signals to the ECU.

Basically the solution was to remove the plug to the sensor, trim back to where the break was, re wire the plug (that was the tricky bit) and re attach to the sensor.

excellent, ill give it a try then!

Ive had the car lowered 45mm which ive heard puts extra stretch on the ABS wires so make sence!!!

Cheers

The break in the wire was pretty obvious on mine when the wheel was off and you wiggled the wire......try wiggling the wire ignition on and see if the ABS light come on or if you can see/feel the break......if it's not the wire then it's probably the sensor. ECU should also being throwing up a fault codes

The ABS light is one constantly.

I had a quickish look when changing brake pads but couldnt see anything obvious.

Is there any easy way to find out if its a sensor and which one?

I've had a quirk with my ABS for many months now, but I've more or less ignored it because it's not a big issue... When I start, usually from cold, the ABS usually feels like it's kicking in on my first touch of the brake - which is usually a slow brake at the end of my street or leaving the office car park. Never does it again, and doesn't do it every time, but very frequently I feel the telltale vibrate through the pedal that first time...

Ive ignored it for a good few months now but my MOT is due in Nov and I dnt want to have to fix it then!

Had a good look at the ABS at the weekend, couldnt see any breaks in the ABS cable and the sensors looked fine.

Gave the sensor a good clean etc but still no difference!

The cars going in for its MOT sometime next week and since its not an issue i dont want to have to pay out for some garage to try and fix it. Could end up costing a fortune.

How much does it cost to get the fault re-set on VAG-COM and where would I get it done?

Cheers

Had this same problem on mine, the exact same symptoms, was back and to the Dealers like a Yo-Yo as they refused to sort it (even though still under warranty). I had worn through my ABS wire through the car being too low, so i got this replaced myself as wasnt covered under warranty.

It ended up being the actual wheel sensor itself...and even then it was a part that had already gone wrong once and been replaced under warranty before.

There are three thigns it could be. 1) The ABS Wire, 2) The ABS sensor the wire attatches to or 3) The roational measuring device.

for your sake i hope it is 1 or 2, i got quoted on 3 and my wallet feignted.
