Clunking Coilovers

Think you hit the nail on the head with the spring chamfer Phil.
I just greased mine up and it has reduced the clunking for the mean time.
I only get a clunk on both sides now when on the last turn of the wheel to full lock. Before it'd do it about 4-5 times until full lock!
Can't see the greasing lasting that long though..

the other day from inside the engine bay i took the top part of the strut cover off (the nut and dish thingy which stops the suspension from falling out the strut!) in the hope that i could get to the bearing from there!

well i couldnt and i now realsie its a coilover off job to get to the bearing! :(

but what i did do was sprayed wd40 into the top of the strut hoping it would leak down into the bearing.

anyways it seams to have helped ever so slightly. only i can hear the EVER SO slight noise i get now which sounds more like the springs than the bearing.

if thats how the noise says id be happy (as u cant really hear it!)

but anyways, what i plan to do is, on sunday after my track day at lydon this saturday il take my alloys off to givem a good clean (brake dust/tyre debris etc) and whilst they are off il be able to get much better acces to my coilovers, so il give the springs, platforms etc a good clean with brake cleaner or sumic and then il give them a good lube with some copper grease.

hopefully that will make them perfect! :)

talking of copper grease... i have some in a tube, i assume u can get it in a spray can?! cos that would be handy, especially if it had a straw (like wd40) so i could get right up into the bearing!

or should i be using some other sort of grease/lube instead of copper grease?!

cheers guys.

Theres no bearing on the top mount. Its just the rubber part with the metal middle insert. The more i think of it the more i reckon its the ends of the spring being sharp and digging in and sticking.

Coilover off job this weekend coming.

the bearing goes in the top mount.

it sits ontop of the coilover which goes inside the top mount.

I'm having this problem with the stock Cupra suspension, on a 1.4s however.

I thought it must have been the A arm bushes, but it seems to be the same problem as you are all having here, although you all talk about coilovers.

Does anyone hear it only some times? Sometimes when i'm out they dont make a sound, then they do, and recently they have been making alot of noise. Looks like i'll try what you are all trying and see how it goes.

I wouldnt spray wd40 on your bearings, all that will do is break down what little grease is allready there.

Copper grease is an anti seize. Its not a lubricant. You only want to use it on parts/threads you dont want to seize.

hope that helps!
