Urgent Help, Have I blown an oil line off my turbo

Ive been told that there was a sensor lose on the back of my turbo and when it was tightened it reduced my high pitch whistle. Ive been poking around the back of the turbo and ive think ive found it BUT im not sure if it’s a oil line or a sensor cable. I will get a few pics up soon but a description first.

As you put you hand down the inlet side of the turbo theres a pipe that looks braided but feels plastic coated, this goes into a soiled 90 degree pipe into the turbo. Now if you touch it it spins freely but if you pull it up it seems to lock into place. Now there is some oil over the out side of my TIP but ive had that checked and it doesn’t seem to be blowing from the turbo. And im not losing oil BUT im worried the turbo could be fooked (that’s why its screaming) as it not getting any oil?

Has anyone got any images (exploded diagrams) so I can try and pin point the pipe and see if it’s the sensor or an oil line (I don’t think it is an oil line but oil on the pipe and screaming turbo makes me worry!)

Please help!

Thats what im hoping. It looks like an oil line but feels like a plastic pipe (smooth etc)

Im just going for a hoon to see if it has reduced my leaking sound

Ok just been out and the car holds the boost allot more now, whistle is down to what i would class as normal and its only finger tight. I losened the pipe off again and did the same run and you could hear and feel the difference.

Does anyone know what this pipe is as it seem sto be reading a pressure from the turbo. Im going to book her into seat but i know its been tightend once already

Thats the oil feed line i think, part 13 on the diagram! This is what destroyed my turbo as it was rubbing again the cylinder head causing a small hole, leading to the turbo not getting sufficient oil pressure to the turbo! :(

Was it an instant failure or was it gradual? Im sure its a vacum sensor. Ive been looking at turbos on the net but cant see any wired up, But they cant have many snesors on them? (i didnt know they had any) but they have at leats one?

there is a temp sensor at rear of turbo that always apears lose but this is correct. It prevents turbo and exhaust manifold over heating. Will post up info tomorrow.

Appears loose? If it's the one i'm thinking of i blew it off the turbo shortly after fitting my exhaust (annoying whistling for a bit then BOOM. I just spannered it back on and it's been fine since. If it's supposed to be loose does anyone know the right torque setting?

Nice to know what it is tho, thanks WW! I guessed it was some kind of oxygen sensor  as no-one would tell me at the time.

hi scott!

attached is a screen shot from ETKA with our turbo.

like you said, its very hard to see eactly whats what!

and obvioulsy without seeing exactly which pipe it is thats gone we wont know!

my money would be on number 38 (pressure control line £21.07) or maybe an oil return line (£67.80)... but are you loosing oil? but still, im sure these are braiden lines?!

im only guessing scott!

let me know wat the stealers say/do!

good luck!

james :)

Looks to me like the EGT (exhaust gas temp) sensor. These are only fitted to the K04 turbos. They are braided too. The other end of the sensor is located inder the inlet. Take off the plastic cover and you should see a braided line.

Is it the same size as the braided line at the turbo end?

If its loose then you will be loosing exhaust gas.

Its the EGT temp sensor follow the braided hose and it should lead to a black box bolted under the intake mani.

My one was loose and spinning like u said. I just hand tightened it, its kinda hard to get a spanner in there.

Edited: i'm to slow!

Apologies if it ain't mean't to be loose, i made that assumption on the fact that mine and other peoples are loose. I can't believe Seat didn't nip em up with a spanner. It does feel a bit delicate, but i bet it could be reached more easily from under the car on a ramp. The braided cable connecting it can be easily mistaken for a thin oil or water line. :)
