good find m8! Thats the sort of thing im thinking about, but instead of having the grilles around the edge of the gauge visible, i will fibre glass them smooth so the gauge really looks standard.

ooo, im getting hyped now  I don't suppose you could link me to the forum and topic you got those pics from? would be interesting to see what he's said about it.

mmm....is that the only way? i.e. are they "meant" to come out like that? looking at the vent in the pic below, it looks like there are clips all the way round stopping it from being pulled outwards.

i have climate control, but this shouldnt affect the vents, as they can be closed anyway without causing a problem, or isn't that what u mean?

I mean that on my car the manual climate controls are on the lower part of the dash, but for example on Ibiza Evo 2's pics teh automatic system is right under the vents, so the method from taking a part the dash under the vents is bit harder.

I took of my cd/radio and the box under it. Then the plastic casing surrounding it and the climatecontrol unit (see 'em all here)
comes off after few screws, two on both sides, and one inside it 'on the roof'. I have pics of these, but not available on the moment. Then you pull off the whole thing and de-attach the wiring to emergency signals and such. From under there you can easily reach and take off the vents without any 'violence'..and almost without..

my climate control is underneath the tray which is underneath the stereo...i.e. the base of the centre of the dash.

probably a really lame question but how do u remove the standard alana stereo? is it the two rectangular holes at the bottom of the unit?

yup...

you need 2 flat pieces of metal, with 45 degree angles at the end,

push them in and move keys towards centre[or outwards, can't remember!]

then pull hard..

its hard but easy once you've done it once...

Hope this helps ya
