WTCC racer Tom Boardman to join BTCC line up for 2010

Tom Boardman returns to race full time in the UK for the first time since winning the SEAT Cupra Championship in 2005.  After further SEAT one-make successes in Spain, and a season in the WTCC the 26 year old Lancashire driver will contest the BTCC in a SEAT Leon TSI run by Special Tuning (UK). It will also mark a return for Tom to the BTCC for the first time since 2003, having contested the Production class from 2001 to 2003.

Boardman will continue his relationship with SEAT UK, which started in 2009, through Club SEAT (www.club-seat.co.uk). This tie up should see the car and driver appear in a number of less familiar surroundings during the year as part of some new marketing activities. The car will continue to run with the same SEAT TSI S2000 petrol engines used last year.

“Although the decision to contest the BTCC came quite late, I’m really looking forward to 2010, as I have missed racing in the UK for a few years now.” The winner of the WTCC Independents race at Brands Hatch continued “It’s going to be difficult, with the number of experienced drivers that will continue in the BTCC this year, but we have set our targets high”.

The Special Tuning (UK) team is hoping to secure a driver for its second Leon TSI, something that should be concluded in the next couple of weeks.
