I've got a Leon Mk2 and the mrs has trouble seeing through the back window when reversing, so i fitted some cobra a0258 parking sensors which hopefully will stop her reversing into anything

Couldnt really find any guides on how to fit them to a leon so though i'd share my knowledge for anyone else who has a go. Whole install took 2 hours - however with this guide you should be able to do it in around an hour as i spent an hour figuring out the best route for the cables and which wire was the live reverse feed

Received the sensors the other day £65, went to my local spray shop and had a tin of spray paint mixed up along with a can of laquer £16. Gave the sensors 3 coats of paint and 3 coats of laquer

After Spray Paint - not much difference! I could have left them without the paint but didnt want to risk it incase they looked crap and stood out

Remove the 2 screws highlighted & pull plastic shelf away

Remove this screw

Remove boot lining and spare wheel. You will then see plastic boot cover where the lock latch is. Remove the 2 screws on either side and pull the cover up - it has 4 clips holding it on but lifting it up will unclip them

You can now see a rubber gromit that you can cut to pull cables through

I pulled the gromit out temporarily so i could easily pull cables into the boot area

Now to measure and mark the bumper - measure twice cut once!!!
Mark the centre of the bumper using the lock pin as a guide
I spaced mine at 60 cms from centre mark to outer sensors and 20cm from centre mark to inner sensors - or every 40cm from the outer left sensor to the outer right sensor = 120cm in total

Drill your 1st hole

Connect the sensor to the wiring lead and pull the lead through the hole into the boot area
There are 2 air vents below the grommit that easily push/pull out which enables you to put your hand through to the rear of the bumper. Once the lead is through push the sensor into the bumper

I couldnt pull the outer sensor cables through by hand so i got a bit of spare wire and used that to fish them through

I put some tape on the leads and numbered them in sequence 1-4 - HOWEVER they do have number collars which i didnt see until they were being connected

Tidy the leads up with some insulation tape

The sensor leads follow the same route as the main wiring and can pull behind the panel

Cable tie them to the wiring to keep them neat

Stick the control unit near the wiring connectors

Stick the speaker to the seat belt roller

Undo the nut and connect your earth lead to the bolt and replace nut

Test for the live reverse feed by closing the boot, turning your engine on, put the car into reverse gear, turn engine off and turn ignition back on. Get out and check your reverse light is on - if so get a voltage meter and test for a 12v feed - place one probe on the earth nut and the other on the wire which you believe is the feed - in my case the blue/black wire. If you get 12v, take the car out of reverse gear and test the voltage is 0v so you know for sure you've got the correct wire

Turn the ignition off, cut the feed wire and connect the feed wire for the parking control unit - then wrap in insulation tape

Turn the car on and it should beep. The cobra a0258 needs to be calibrated - reverse 50cm away from a wall, cut the blue wire on the parking control unit, turn ignition on and it should start beeping. Turn car off, tape both ends of blue wire up - tidy up the cables and replace all the interior panels

Job done :3rd:
Time to wash the car!!!

Cheers guys!

Where did you get this sensors and what model they are?

They are the cobra A0258 which i believe are the oem model the dealers fit. I got them off the internet - plenty of places sell them including ebay

I'm thinking of doing the same, and although it seams to me that the height of the sensors is good, I wonder why the original ones are placed much lower..

Does anyone know if there is any particular reason for this? Are the original ones maybe somehow different and can be placed lower than normal sensors?

Just installed mine mine today, on the lower spots.

They work well from the tests I did until now.
