Erm, in short, no. Wrapped some wire around the base and coiled it full way up the aerial, made bit of difference, but funny wire, may not be that conductive, might try something else.
Is this all about surface area? The orginal aerial has the conductive wire wrapped around all the way to the top. With the smaller aerial it's got to suffer from the smaller area and the fact it's just a straight piece of metal... Naturally a coil of wire is more electrically conductive...
I have coiled the wire around, increasing area, but type of wire maybe effecting siganl conductivness. Will try copper maybe, actually used cheese wire. Bloody hurt winding it!
Here's the one I went for ebay link. The reception isn't that good compared to the standard aerial. It does come with two whip pieces but I put the shorter one on so the longer one should give better reception, but I never use the radio anyway so it doesn't bother me lol.
Looks a lot nicer though compared to that dodgem mast standard aerial
I bought one of the Citroën/Peugeot 6561.N3 aerials from Citworld on eBay yesterday & it arrived today. Just fitted it on my Mk4 Ibiza this evening and it looks cool.
I'm expecting radio reception to suffer because the original SEAT one is so much longer, but then I rarely listen to the radio anyway.
I put the car through the local car wash sometimes (yes I know that's not good for the paintwork) and despite the fact that I would lay the original aerial flat, I was always worried that the brush would catch it on the way back over the car. Now, I can just unscrew the new stubby aerial, and if it ever gets stolen it's not going to cost much to replace.
